you CAN do it multiple times if you so wish

Oh good we broke the first one. New link is here, same story.

Cannot even make this shit up

Just did this, took 2 min!!

my infamously data skewing followers rise up!

My followers urge to scew poll results knows no bounds

i know your blog says finnish grammar but honestly I have no idea who else to ask. If I wanted to learn more about Finnish mythology, what's a good place to start? I'm specifically trying to learn about Tellervo if you could help me out there.

Thanks so much :)

Sadly, there's very little sources even in finnish about finnish mythology. The christians spent over a thousand years painstakingly scrubbing out any trace or knowledge of The Old Pagan Habits of the common people, so everything that's left is a fraction of a fraction of a remnant of a trace. Researchers specialising in finnish mythology have occasionally resorted to comparing their sources with the mythologies of other peoples of common ancestry, such as Estonians, to see if there are similarities and which old details and traits were probably shared and original.

The finns didn't have a written language before the 1500s, and the first finns who could read and write in their own native languages were priests, determined to teach christian teachings to the peasants in their own language. Figuring out what old finnish folklore and mythology was really like is a lot like figuring out what dinosaurs looked like. The best we can do is look at the traces that remain and make educated guesses about it.

Like the more I think about this, the more I think about shit like colonialism. I mean we got lucky. Finnish people still exist, as a distinct people with a distinct name and our own written and spoken language, that is the official language of the landmass we live on. The old faith and folklore are more or less gone, in remnants that were retained out of sheer luck, that either were never caught or went in too deep to scrub out completely.

But some people have an empty hole in the place of where their everything should be. People who don't speak the language of their people because it was never recorder, and their grandparents' parents were prohibited from speaking it. People who don't know what their people used the native plants for, because they were forced out of lands they knew how to use.

I mean fuck there's people who don't even know what clans and tribes they are from, because their parents, grandparents or great-grandparents were taken from their families and relocated to sever the chain. On purpose.

And holy shit the more I think about it the more wildly fucked up that is. Finns got scrubbed of their old faith but we got lucky.

not to be a killjoy but it's still crazy to me that it's considered mean to be like "maybe you should read / play / watch the source material before creating fanworks and diving into the fandom" bc every time i see somebody going "i havent played disco elysium or know anything about it tbh but uwu here's harry and kim kissing" idk maybe you should engage with it. maybe you should play the anti-capitalist surrealist game where you investigate the murder of a mercenary who led the gang rape of a foreign girl and process that for a bit? and then you can do cutesy mlm or whatever idc. but like at the absolute bare minimum you should understand what the source material involves otherwise we get the phenomenon of people joining a dragon age server and wanting content warnings for like, mage racism. like it's fine to ship and transform the genre into whatever but if you arent comfortable with discussions of the actual source content itself then maybe the fandom isnt for you and a different one is. peace and love.

actual peace and love would involve letting anyone who wants to do things do them, without judgment.

I don't think there is anything unreasonable about the idea that if someone isn't comfortable with actual discussions of the source material they should probably not insert themselves into the fandom. And I struggle to see how this has anything to do with ableism as per your tags.

Well, when you demand a certain amount of effort to be input before you consider someone's creative work valid, that's ableist.

The issue at hand isn't one of the validity of transformative works (and I agree with you there that art doesn't derive meaning or validity from the amount of "effort" poured into it) but of fandom social dynamics and the very simple fact that people involved in a fandom will find people who have not engaged with the source material yet insist on inserting themselves into the fandom annoying. This user articulated it well imo and I'm tired right now:

Unfortunately it's still gatekeeping and still ableist.

I genuinely think it's neither of those things.

i show up to the Planes Enjoyer Convention to talk about how pretty planes are. to my shock i learn planes fly which is awful because i'm scared of heights.

despite me being very passionate, nobody wants to hear about my novel where i imagine planes as types of burrowing creatures. instead people tell me i don't seem very interested in planes or the Planes Enjoyer Convention. this is very mean and judgemental.

eventually i strike up a conversation with someone and they reveal that planes are sometimes used for wars, and they actually like historical "war planes". my heart sinks.

they seem surprised and suggest that i read up about planes. that's just unacceptable. i call them an ableist gatekeeper and protest as i mime being forcibly escorted out of the convention by the security guards i made up in my head.

I know that realistically you can only fit so many movies into a list of approximately 100, but I cannot take that "How many of tumblr's favorite movies have you seen?" list that's been going around seriously because there are some truly egregious omissions.

Some of it is very clearly recency bias, which makes me wonder if the op truly wasn't on here in 2013 or so, but you're telling me you made a list of "tumblr's favorite movies" that doesn't include Pacific Rim or Mad Max: Fury Road? Because, like, I was there, Gandalf.

I'm a ridiculous human and genuinely couldn't sleep until I tried my hand at a better, more balanced list -- though of course, I have my own biases when it comes to what corners of this website I've lurked in over the years. For what it's worth, I did consult the last several Years In Review, while also drawing on the fact that I've been here for over a decade. But if there's anything that truly doesn't feel like it should have made the cut, blame my mutuals for putting it on my dash all the time.

(And apologies, but I couldn't seem to find Goncharov among the website's listings)

A MUCH more accurate list of Tumblr faves over the years

There's an EU initiative going on right now that essentially boils down to wanting to force videogame publishers with paid games and/or games with paid elements such as DLC, expansions and microtransactions to leave said games in a playable state after they end support, or in simpler terms, make them stop killing games.

A "playable state" would be something like an offline mode for previously always online titles, or the ability for people to host their own servers where reasonably possible just to name some examples.

I don't think I need to tell anyone that having something you paid for being taken from you is bad, which is a thing that routinely happens with live service and other always online games with a notable recent example being The Crew which is now permanently unplayable.

Any EU citizen is eligible to sign the initiative, but only once and if you mess up that's it. You can find it here. (https://citizens-initiative.europa.eu/initiatives/details/2024/000007_en)

Even if you're not European or you signed it already, you can share this initiative with anyone who is, even if they don't care about videogames specifically because this needs a million signatures and there is different thresholds that need to be met for each EU country for their votes to even count and could also be a precedent for other similar practices like when Sony removed a bunch of Discovery TV content people paid for.

SUPPORT BELOW 50% OF THE THRESHOLD IN THESE COUNTRIES:

Bulgaria - 35% Croatia - 45% Cyprus - 12% (!!!!) Czechia - 47% Greece - 27% Italy - 41% Latvia - 43% Luxembourg - 20% Malta - 11% (!!!!) Romania - 48% Slovakia - 47% Slovenia - 38%

SEVEN countries out of 27 have met the threshold so far. Deadline is 31st July, 2025.

This should absolutely be the law <3

It very much should. Here's an update on the numbers as of April 2025.

COUNTRIES BELOW 50% OF THRESHOLD:

Bulgaria - 36.8% Croatia - 47% Cyprus - 12.8% Czechia - 48.8% Greece - 31.7% (some progress!) Italy - 44.8% (a bit more progress!) Latvia - 44.6% Luxembourg - 21% Malta - 12% Romania - 50% (YAY) Slovakia - 48.8% Slovenia - 42.4% (there too!)

As you can see, it's slow going. Many more countries haven't reached the threshold yet, and remember, the deadline is 31/07/2025. We need them all up by then!

OTHER COUNTRIES IN NEED OF MORE SIGNATURES:

Austria (72.7%), Belgium (90.1% presque !!), Estonia (56.5%), Hungary (62.9%), Lithuania (61.1%), Portugal (53.6%), Spain (84.6), and France (81.8% allez les gars quoi votez sur ma vie).

To Poland, who reached a stratospheric 141.4%, I never doubted you. You hold the record for most signatures in relation to population size. Mass respect. You smashed that threshold.

How am I only just learning this!?

My multishipping ass is about to go ham...

helpful info for those who need it

Explanation of what this does for anyone confused!

Reminder that every TERF supports mutilation of intersex children, it is inherent to their ideology.

if it were inherent to the ideology would you need to remind everyone?

I need to remind people that intersex people exist all the time. because we are being violently erased. Perisex people forget about our issues and are unaware of the way bigoted ideology affects us differently from how it affects perisex trans people. This isn't the point you think it is.

1. your original post was intended to inform people that TERFs believe in gential mutiliation of intersex people, which

2. isn’t even true. radfems oppose FGM, cosmetic surgeries, the healthcare complex as a whole and its maltreatment of women. it is a fundamental part of the ideology to reject unnecessary medical procedures aimed at abusing us. so that leads me back to

3. if it were an inherent part of radical feminism/TERFs whatever you want call it, you would actually see evidence of it instead of needing to make a reminder for people to believe that bullshit.

It's evident to me because I am part of the group being targeted. My post is for the people blind to our suffering because they do not experience it themselves. The sex binary is enforced with violence. People like me are the primary target of it. You don't see us because patriarchal cisnormative society had deemed us unacceptable and mutilates us into fitting.

You literally could not argue "sex is binary" without leaning on enforcement of it through violence against intersex people, committed to uphold the patriarchy, by the way. Fuck you. Fuck you and everyone like you. The basis of your ideology RELIES on my subjugation. Ghoul. You're so far removed from intersex suffering that you genuinely believe you don't support it. But you do. And you always will. Voices like yours should be stamped out, intolerance should never be tolerated, as they say. You are against my existence so I'm against yours.

Saying that "sex is binary" is not tantamount to "the sex binary should be enforced with igm". When a radfem says "all intersex people are female or male", she doesn't mean "they should be operated on to become that" she means "even if someone is born intersex they are still female or male anyway based on their gonads." Radfems are against igm. They don't think that igm would make someone female or male bc they would think that person was already female or male anyway.

The basis of radfem ideology doesn't include igm at all. That's absurd. It doesn't involve denying the existence of intersex people either.

Oh my fucking God shut the fuck up you obviously know nothing about us.

You are literally denying the existence of intersex people by calling us disordered males & females. That is what you are doing in your response. Like right fucking now. There are intersex people without gonads. There are intersex people with ovotestes. There are intersex people who produce no gametes, like me. What now? Are we going off what's in my pants then? Going to pull out the phall-o-meter to figure out what my 'real' sex is? Oh but what about my uterus? What about my chromosomes?

Doesn't the act of going through all this fucking effort to categorize us into your "natural immutable binary" prove that the binary is not natural nor immutable?

There is no possible definition of male & female based on anatomy alone that will include every intersex person. None. You cannot define woman without excluding a cisgender intersex woman. It's impossible.

You know what? You're right. I apologize. I'm sorry.

I was so confused by the logical leap from "sex is binary" to "the sex binary should be enforced with igm" (bc it wasn't obvious and you didn't really explain it). But, after reading your and other responses to this post and more posts about intersex people by intersex people and radfems on this site, I get it now.

I don't actually think all intersex people are female or male, nor I do think they are disordered. However, lots of radfems DO believe those things, and, at first, I didn't understand how that supported IGM if they also say they are against IGM.

But I get it now. Saying that intersex people are disordered or just female or male implies they are female or male people whose body developed incorrectly instead of an intersex person whose body developed just fine. And that is of course what doctors who do IGM believe also, that an intersex person's body is just a female or male body that developed "wrong" and needs to be corrected.

I actually want to respond to this in-depth, it is incredibly rarely I see someone, especially a self-proclaimed radfem, change their worldview because of information given to them by a sex variant person.

This is a good thing, genuinely, thank you for listening, internalizing what I am saying, and changing your worldview to be more reflective of the goals of intersex liberation. But this is really only a first step. I hope that learning more about intersex liberationist ideas will help you to better understand my transgender siblings. The idea that categorizing intersex people into a distinct sex, (be it male, female, or a misinformed third sex), is not in our best interest; is in line with the ideas of trans liberation that are antithetical to radical feminism/gender critical feminism.

If you keep to this change of opinions, you will eventually recognize that your worldview holds a paradox which must be reconciled. Gender critical feminism is based around reverence of the myth of binary sex in gonochoric species; nearly every gender critical feminist you meet will tell you that "sex is binary", "intersex people do not disprove the binary", and "every human is male or female by nature of their body" with no exception for the sex variant. They will often call us disordered and refuse to call us by our community chosen term; intersex. This is because the other beliefs held by the radfeminist or gender critical worldview are dependent on the idea that sex classes, as defined by one's body, are all that matters when talking about gender-based oppression. I say gender-based oppression because there is no such thing as sex-based oppression, at least not in the sense that radical feminists mean it.

It's true that sex traits associated with the mullarian development pathway - "female" - will cause the person who possesses them to experience marginalization under patriarchy. This is recognized by the trans community at large. The reason for this marginalization, however, is because of the gender association held in these anatomical traits. The socially established proximity to the feminine gender and distance from the masculine gender is what causes the those with these traits to be oppressed for them, even if the people who possess them may not be women. (Ex, trans men, nonbinary people & intersex men like myself who have visibly mixed sex traits).

In short, we believe people are oppressed for having certain sex traits due to those traits' association with an oppressed gender. If having a uterus, breasts, vulva, etc was not associated with a gender deemed lesser under patriarchy, those traits would not cause the individuals who have them to be oppressed.

In addition to this, proximity to femininity in ways outside of one's sex-trait-gender-associations will also cause those individuals being marginalized under patriarchy, in similar but distinct ways, regardless of whether or not they have underwent the wolffian - "male" - developmental pathway in utero or an intersex developmental pathway (neither fully mullarian or wolffian developmental pathway). This is why trans women experience misogyny and are targeted by patriarchy, despite having bodily traits with an association to the masculine gender. Trans women willingly embrace femininity and womanhood (the "inferior" gender under patriarchy) of their own volition, a radical and subversive act for a person who's societally imposed gender is the "superior" masculine one under patriarchy, a trans woman existing in and of herelf is a living rejection of patriarchy's assertions of sex.

Generally speaking, sex variant & gender queer people are deemed threats to order in patriarchy, specifically because we violate the binary sex & gender categorizations used to subjugate people in proximity to femininity. Binary gender assignment and sex categorization is meant to broadcast to the world which individuals are able to impregnate or be impregnated; and thus who is the "inferior" class of people. The existence of intersex people like me and every trans person, throws a fork in the blender in regards to this specific system of patriarchal control.

This is all more complex than what I've gone over here, especially when accounting for every other axis of oppression and how that interacts with gender-based oppression, but this is a general overview of the beliefs held by most people who fight for trans and intersex rights, presented from a specifically intersex POV. I don't explain this all to be condescending, I do so because people taking the time to speak to me is what deradicalized me when I was young and held reactionary beliefs about all sorts of topics. You changing your mind on this one thing tells me that explaining this to you isn't ultimately a waste of my time and mental fortitude.

Any gender outside of patriarchal manhood is marginalized under patriarchy. This includes not just cis women, but every trans person and many intersex people. We're your (cis womens') allies in your fight to end patriarchal oppression.
