i just saw a post on reddit titled "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" and it was about OP clicking off a fic because they don't like the direction it's going in. slightly different context but can we all be more like this reddit OP. i think "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" should be the new "don't like don't read." dead doves may give you diarrhea but don't make that everyone else's problem.

Nationwide Anti-Trump Protests on April 5th, 2025

This Saturday— April 5th, 2025— will be the first truly nationwide day of protests against the second Trump administration, with more than 500 "Hands Off" events planned across all 50 states. The vast majority of Americans will have an anti-Trump protest nearby them.

You can find the protest closest to you here. You can get more information about the day of action here. You can explore the list of 150+ organizations sponsoring the day of action here.

Hey. Look at me. Please leave yourself a note somewhere you'll see it later that says "it is going to take years if not decades to get the United States government to the level of functionality it had in November of 2024." If we elect a democrat in 2028, we are not going to be up and running by 2032.

Please make sure you have a reminder in your phone reminding you to not look at 2028/32/36 Democratic candidates and say "why are they not promising/delivering Cool Shit?" because you are going to understand that to get Cool Shit we must have competent people running a decently funded government, and we are not going to have that.

We are not getting UBI. We are not getting single payer healthcare. We are not getting free college or free preschool. We are not redistributing wealth on a large scale. We are not getting free internet. We are not getting ranked choice voting.

If we are lucky, we are going to get an IRS that can collect taxes, qualified schoolteachers, research grants, Social Security, and a government that thinks maybe it should be a priority for people around the worlds to not have AIDS, malaria or TB.

We are now quite literally trying to plant trees under whose shade we will (likely) never sit. Make your peace with that however you need to, and do what you can to keep them from cutting down what's left of the forest.

Joey’s debut novel, It’s Not a Cult, will be published this September!

It’s Not a Cult is a darkly comic folk horror that follows Callum, Melusine and Al: members of a band with no name, playing in bad pubs across the North East and occasionally reaching the dizzy heights of 97 viewers on their livestreams," the synopsis says. "To say they are losers would be to imply they were in the race in the first place. But they believe in their music, and in each other."
It adds: "Their songs tell the stories of the Solkats: fictional northern gods of small things, mishap and mayhem. However, when an act of violence at a pub gig goes viral, they catch the eye of a disillusioned influencer and suddenly gain an all-too-literal cult following."

lmao. The way people talk about Kamala like she wasn't just another neolib that would uphold the status quo.

girl, fucking bye

I know that this 32 year-old who says he's an "elfkin" anarchist communist in his bio doesn't get this, but yeah I would've loved the status quo under Biden to have continued under Harris compared to the current chaos of Trump filling the government with lunatics who are threatening war with allies, firing thousands of federal workers, trying to destroy the Department of Education, threatening vaccine research and cancer research, and deporting immigrants with no criminal record to a mega-prison in El Salvador without due process

ya got me! I'm just a status-quo-loving shitlib!

oh and for the self-righteous dickweed cowards who "voted for Gaza" - Trump is actively making plans and propaganda to raze the entirety of Gaza to the ground and build a vacation resort there for him and his rich buddies. He wants to call it "Trump Gaza". He's advocating for the permanent displacement of Palestinians into Egypt.

You didn't vote for Gaza, you dumb fucks. But you already knew that. You just didn't have the backbone to stand up and say you'd rather have blood on your hands than a woman in the White House.

like i'm sorry but we as a fandom have to stay firm on our anti-AI values. we cannot suddenly start giving AI a pass when it's something we "want to see" like destiel kisses. it's not suddenly fine. we're not going to start using AI to make fanfic scenes come to life or audio AI to make characters "say" stuff we want to hear. you have GOT to be firm on your anti-AI stance. if you start making exceptions then suddenly anything will fly. fandom is for real art and creations made by real people. no AI fanfics. no AI art. no AI rendered "bonus" scenes. no AI audio. none of it has a place here.

"but I want to see XYZ" make a manip. write a fic. make an edit. draw fanart. talk to other fans who take commissions/requests. look at what other fans have already created, let it inspire you.

AI has no place in fandom spaces. not for anything. ever.

I really dislike Maddie since they did the her storyline with postnatal depression. Serious topic but they did dirty. But really she can't seeing Buck being bi? Okay, so be it. But not supporting Buck to reach out to Tommy (a no-go) because Tommy is important to him. I really hate this. Poor Buck, he derserves better! Never thought Maddie would be so one track mind, but she is and Buck can't see it. I'd love to see Buck being encourgend to fight for what he wants. I dislike Maddie for many reasons but she seems like to never listen to Buck wants.

And, like, the "would it be so crazy?" when asking Buck if he was in love with Eddie felt very queerphobic to me? Like, no, you can't just have a very close male friend, you must also want to bang them because he's a dude and you like dudes. That's how it works, right?

We know with Tommy and what he was saying it's because he's insecure about his place in Buck's life and if he'll be the first choice. Also note Tommy never said anything about romantic love when he was "joking" about competition. I still maintain that the whole thing might not really be about Eddie, but that was just how Tommy's intense insecurities manifested, especially after seeing how Buck moved into Eddie's old house. Eddie hasn't been an issue for the whole six months they were dating, but now he is? I don't think so. I think Tommy came back and saw how seemingly ok Buck was after their breakup (because he had no actual indication of how Buck actually was) and started questioning his importance in Buck's life. And I absolutely hate that he was (as he thinks) proven right.

Buck, baby. I love you. I'm a Buck girlie. But lashing out and saying things you don't mean when you're angry is not a good trait. Look at what you did to that hunky beefcake. Look at what you did to his facial expressions.

But, with how much Maddie fought to be with Chimney and how much shit they had to go through to be together, her being so dismissive of Buck wanting to reach out to Tommy is pissing me right off.

I know JLH has some damn pull over the lines they give her, I wish she would use it.

Yes to ALL OF THE ABOVE.

OMG it's been driving me a little crazy since 7x04 and Buck coming out to her. I was just talking about this with @qwordavoider and it's like all of the conversations between Maddie and Buck (that are related to Tommy and/or his romantic life) feel lowkey biphobic/queerphobic. I don't think it's super overt... but there's always a vibe or a line that's just weird and makes you go "wait... huh?"

The fact that he hasn't had a conversation with Hen yet is still mind boggling to me, especially since we know Aisha and Oliver are such good friends. That scene would eat.

And let's not forget, Hen has actually known Tommy longer than Buck has. Sure, she knows the old Tommy, but she definitely could give some perspective about the things he's been through.

I think at best, Maddie is trying to be non committal when it comes to matters of Tommy. But a lot of it is just coming out wrong and her lines are horrid. JLH. Babe. I know you know better.

I don't think it's that she wants Buck to suffer - I think she wants to be right.

When she first arrived, she had to listen to her baby brother complain about the new guy at work, and she jokingly called it a boy-crush.

She wants to be vindicated. She wants to have that Big Sister Intuition moment.

Her character arc since Buck came out is very much "I can't be homophobic, I have a Gay Bestie," and since absolutely no one is calling her on that, she's essentially given free reign to say/do whatever she wants in service of Being Right.

She doesn't seem to actually care who Buck ends up with - she just wants to be Right about who he's actually in love with, and she doesn't seem to realise how much that's hurting her brother.

I think every queer person has come across someone like her before at least once in our lives. The friend who thinks that every queer person is either secretly in love with their straight friend OR that every queer person is automatically attracted to every other queer person they meet. I think what hurts the most about this narrative, though, is that IRL, those "friends" get called out. They get confronted with how hurtful they're being, or how annoying they're being.

They won't do that to Maddie, though, because god forbid she could ever be seen in a less-than-positive light in the narrative, even when it's deserved.

The Greens have been long time vocal critics of the $368 billion AUKUS submarine deal, saying we should scrap it. Trump is quickly turning on all of the US's allies, meaning he might end up scrapping the deal anyway and putting Australia's defence at risk. So the Greens have announced a credible Plan-B.

Their policy is that we should cancel weapons contracts with the US and reallocate $4 billion from savings within the defence budget towards domestically made military equipment created solely for self-defence purposes, freeing us from the whims and foreign interests of the volatile US, and giving Australia control over its self-defence.

"Having a sovereign capacity which you can control, which can't be turned off at 24 hours' notice by the likes of Donald Trump, that's actually important for our security." said David Shoebridge, Greens Defence spokesman.

This makes sense. As much of a pacifist as I am, we need to admit that we cannot simply abolish the military and we also can't rely on the US to defend us. We need an alternative to the US, and that either means a) doing weapons contracts with other foreign nations and having to rely on their governments also remaining stable and friendly or b) make something here and have full autonomy over it. Option B is the best alternative.

Ultimately, this will still reduce the amount of military spending so money can be spent more productive elsewhere (maybe one day dental in Medicare, or more on public housing) but also provides us with stability. If we're to decouple from the US, if we're to choose to scrap AUKUS ourselves instead of having the US dump us, we need an alternative solution and this is what the Greens have come up with.
