the 1996 Doctor Who tv film is beautiful to me. An American network tries to adapt a tv show about a time traveling Good Samaritan. What they produce is a lore-intensive fever dream where the protagonist switches faces partway through and no time travel actually happens.
Timelords have gender, not because they need to or should or have different enough biology to support it or because they even think about having sex! They have gender because there was gender in the era when Rassilon founded Gallifrey and they haven't grown out changed socially at ALL since then

The Doctor is murdered by surgeons who electrocuted him while he had a metal probe in his heart, he survived the bullets but he is killed anyway, violently and unnecessarily, because they were curious about why his pulse was racing as if he had two. And when he wakes up he can't remember who he is or where he came from, only that his last memory is on his back while masked doctors hold him down, there is something METAL stabbing through him that should not be there, but he remembers he has two hearts before he remembers his own name. All he learns about himself, he learns from violence. Or something
