it's funny how catra stans say that “you can't handle complex realistic victims” and “if adora was abused by catra, why wasn't she scared?” in the same breath.
because first of all, she was scared of catra. she has been shown to be scared of catra plenty of times. y'all just watched the show with your eyes closed.
and secondly, a person doesn't have to be visibly scared of their abuser all the time to be acknowledged as a victim. it's a lot more complex than that.
heck, catra didn't seem scared of shadow weaver most of the time. she was often pretty straightforward about her hatred towards shadow weaver. she openly insulted and talked back to shadow weaver.
and yet y'all have no problem believing that she's a victim of abuse. because she is.
and it's the same with adora. just because she has stood up to catra or expressed anger towards catra, doesn't mean that she's suddenly not a victim.
stop picking and choosing who gets to be a realistic depiction of an abuse victim.
