⋆ˊˎ- Hi, I'm Ekko She/They/It

✩I'm 18, black, a lesbian, and I enjoy going in-depth about media I like. I'm partial to animated media.

✩My criticism usually comes because I really like a show/movie/book/whatever but don't like a choice they made my complaining is all in good fun. If I genuinely don't like something, I'm more likely to completely ignore it lol.

Also, I will not argue in reblogs or comments with you voice your opinions as you like, but I'm not responding to anything that jumps to personally insulting me. I'm here for fun, just like I assume you are as well. I will block freely if your an ass to me.

My Dms are always open to talk.

Still thinking about the "I keep telling myself that you're different" line btw. She kept telling herself that Vi wasn't really a Zaunite. That she's different from them. That's why Vi ending up with Caitlyn in Piltover without any friends (ex. Ekko) is so horrid - Caitlyn succeeded in erasing the Zaun parts of Vi

I think the pure horror of seeing Vi humming Dear Friend Across the River before saying "Eh just some song I guess", like it was the final trace of revolutionary spirit leaving her body, is never quite gonna get matched. I sit around shaking with the anxiety it gives me. Canon Caitvi is such a monstrously abusive relationship that sucks out every fibre of Vi's being till she's an empty shell of who she used to be and the writers' insistence that it's cute is just putrid.

Here's an open call for harassment against me for disliking Caitlyn and saying it's bad to exploit your authority for cheap sex, in case you thought the Arcane fandom was sane right now. I also wanna stress this person's followers have already broken the no slur rule lmfao. Interesting how they like to call people misogynistic or homophobic for criticising Caitlyn but see no issue harassing trans lesbians and calling them slurs.

Something that I do not understand is the number of people patrolling the #arcane critical tag to beat down people’s opinions. The tag is used by people, who for the most part, are critiquing and analyzing a piece of media or expressing disappointment in the changes made to a story & characters they cared about. People spamming and commenting on every ‘arcane critical’ post are explicitly and often admittedly trying to beat down and harass people with a different opinion than theirs. I don’t get it.

The long list of things surrounding Ekko that Arcane didn't explain or Show

Honestly, you could make 3 seasons worth of content about all the unexplained Ekko sh*t. Here it is. If you think I missed something feel free to add it in the replies.

1. Why is he with Benzo? What happened to his still living game parents?

2. Who adopted him after Benzo's death? Scar? Verne and Jules? Did his Birthparents help if their alive? Did Silco at least try to take him in because of Jinx, but it clearly didn't work out so he just lived on the streets for a while?

3. When did his falling out with Jinx happen? Was it immediate? Or much later?

4. When did he found the Firelights? And why were they so irrelevant in season 2 despite the fact season 1 thought they were so important that they needed a whole ass music video made about them?

5. Who were Ekko's other dead friends that Jinx killed? You'd think we'd at least get some name drops?

6. How does Ekko feel about all the things Cait and Vi did to his people in season 2?

7. Why did he almost never ask any important questions about the happy AU world? The AU world was written to be a paradise. I'd want every single detail about how make that happen in my reality if I was Ekko.

8. How long was he actually at the AU world? It seemed like just a day, but the montage made it seem longer? If it was actually a couple days then how the hell did he not know about AU Silco until the party?

9. How did he manage to convince the Firelights to work with Jinx? I mean, if they already didn't want to work with the Jinxers then why would they want to work with Jinx herself?

10. What was his reunion with the Firelights actually like? They literally thought he died. On a mission with Heimerdinger. They probably blamed him. Do they know he sacrificed himself to help Ekko?

11. Did Ekko actually tell anyone about the Alt reality? If so, how specific was he?

Watching people defend arcane characters using nothing but vibes and minor facial expressions

Arcane having such wonderful and meaningful animation in s1 destroyed people's ability to interact with s2 because now everything is a fucking conspiracy based on whether or not someone's lip twitches. S1 could have been listened to without any visuals, and you still would have understood the story because the animation added to the story being told it didn't make the story. s2 had such a mediocre story that the animation, while beautiful, is left floundering adding depth to a puddle.

something I dont appreciate about arcane season 2 is how it somehow managed to mischaracterize silco from the grave. from "the base violence necessary for change" into "we build our own prisons" "I thought I could break free by eliminating those I deemed my jailors" Girl piltover is your jailors sometimes quite literally, what are you talking about.

Sure it made me pissed when Caitlyn hit Vi in the abdomen with her rifle, but I wanted to kill something when I saw people’s reaction to it online. Their butchphobia is strong and it is showing. A rifle hit to abdomen would fucking hurt! Even if you are strong and have muscles it is still painful. Don’t believe me that people are acting like this? Under the cut is a compilation of tweets people made after act one was released. I covered names for privacy.

Is impressive how they messed all the relationships so badly.

Like I used to ship Jayce and Viktor and I was ready for drama, hell I didn't even expect a happy ending. But then Viktor's fear for his life and health and desire to improve zaunites lives it's reduced to "perfectionism" and becomes one of the big bads so we don't have to adress the elephant in the room that is the system that almost killed him and continues to opress zaunites. Also half of Jayce actions don't make sense.

I just don't find it interesting anymore.

And dear god they wasted an entire episode on an au fanservice for timbomb where Jinx is a manic pixie dream with barely any personality, all while Ekko is kept away from the real plot and from interacting with the Jinx Ekko knows. I guess it was too hard to adress the complex relationship they had so they had to put au Jinx, so Ekko and Jinx interactions wouldn't be tense and uncomfortable. It needs to be marketable.

And well Caitvi... We all know what happened with Caitvi, and Mel isn't actually in the plot stops being a character and barely interactes with Jayce

They destroyed what made the characters them for a more comfortable story and fanservice and made every relationship terrible.

And this is kinda short because if I decided to talk about platonic relationships this would be never ending.

I miss my wife her name is the themes of political oppression and class divide in arcane season one has anyone seen her

Vi's character assassination in season 2 is still my biggest disappointment. She was my favorite character since the beginning and the biggest reason why I was so hyped for season 2. But instead of the continuation of her story, she was reduced to an obligatory presence because she was important to other character's stories. Mainly Jinx and Caitlyn. It's abundantly clear that the writers didn't care about her.

In season 1, time and time again we see her take initiative, do what she feels is right in order to save her sister. We see her fight Sevika alone, we see her talk Jayce into helping her storm the Shimmer factory. We see her fight Sevika AGAIN, and she would've very well go after Silco, if Jinx didn't intervene.

Where is all that agency in season 2? The last time we see her show an ounce of free will was in episode 1 when she refused the badge from Caitlyn. She wants to go after Jinx alone because that's how she's used to doing things. She's still a kind and compassionate character and knows that Caitlyn has been hurt enough.

We see a glimpse of that when she stops Cait from shooting Jinx because Isha is in the way, but afterward? She gets no development from that point all the way to the end. We get a 2 minute montage of her being a pit fighter, which leads to nowhere. No talk of it being a form of self-harm, no talk about her having hallucinations, no talk of her alcoholism. We, as the audience, know all of that, but what's the point of it, if it's not explored, reflected, touched upon? What is it, other than just a cool music video? Jinx comes along, and she's not miraculously fine.

Even her breakdown at the end of act 3. Was it completely justified? Absolutely, Vi had every right to break down after everything she's been through, but it's not a character development moment, because it's just brushed aside. It's a plot device, so Jinx could sacrifice herself. Next time we see Vi, she's miraculously fine again, even though she watched two people she cares about die.

Yeah, I'm gonna need season 1 Vi back.

It’s insane how perfect the finale of s1 was, which makes it so incomprehensible to me that in s2 they chose to ignore everything that led up to it and all the promise it held for how the story would unfold

I don’t think anyone will ever top the drastic plunge in quality of s2 of arcane

GoT had 8 seasons, spn had 15, mcu released probs like 20 movies before the gradual drop in quality became noticeable. and arcane somehow managed it in 2 seasons, the phenomenal one and the bad one. and going from ‘modern masterpiece’ to phase 4 mcu within 2 seasons is already insane. I used to think such a drastic drop in writing quality was impossible and that’s what gave me confidence going into s2. that even if it’s not as good as s1 it should still be solid lolol

I don’t think you can top that cos you need a minimum of 1 season to solidify yourself as something great. like ppl would never have proclaimed arcane as a masterpiece to begin with if s1 dropped in quality halfway through.

The whole bullshit with AU!Silco being like "Forgiveness is the way to go :))" is so bad because.. Silco did forgive Vander. In episode 3 he was talking about he doesn't even care about what Vander did to him anymore, he's just mad he's playing lapdog to Piltover. He hates Vander because he was supposed to be a fighter, and now he's refusing to fight.

The rift between Silco and Vander was ideological differences. That's why Silco ended up killing him. But I guess the writers forgot about that?
