hi. i'm quinn. mid 20's. queer disabled & chronically ill black person with anxiety they/them pronouns please :) no real theme to this blog, but i am willing to tag things if needed

I dunno who follows me that needs to hear this but reminder its okay to go a long time without needing a mobility aid and then suddenly needing one again. I’ve been dealing with sudden chronic illness since last year and am only a few months into being a cane user but I have frequent periods of remission where I feel fine and then a few days later I’m bedridden or still out of bed and generally fine but I’m sluggish or just don’t feel right. And I keep telling myself “if you aren’t wobbly you don’t need it” but what reason is there to punish myself for doing well? You can use any aid you want, anytime you should, not only anytime you need.

Why is a table/shelf not a mandatory part of an accessible bathroom? Disabled people should not be forced to put their things on the floor

  • Might not be able to reach it, might cause falls
  • Medical equipment shouldn't have to touch the dirty floor
  • Especially if it has to stay sterile
  • Or if there's a lot of it
  • Even non medical belongings deserve to not touch the floor and many disabled people can't just hold their bag/coat while using the loo

absolutely criminal how falling into bad habits is the easiest thing in the world while developing positive habits feels like fighting a literal war

It's so weird to me when people are like 'but that will cost the government money!' So what? They're the government, they're supposed to be spending money. What, you want them to take your tax dollars and then do nothing with it? Lock it all up in a big government vault and just look at it? Why are you so scared of giving a third grader lunch or a homeless person a house.

When my brothers were younger I wanted to teach about misogynistic tropes in media without scaring them off by presenting the topic right out the gate as serious and aggressive and intimidating so I pointed out one day that movie dudes usually only ever have three motives- 1. Wife, 2. Daughter, 3. Dog.

And now whenever we watch a movie together and a dude character is about to reveal their angst backstory we take guesses if it’s gonna be 1, 2, or 3.

Which is specifically the most fun to do in bad B-list action movies because you can say “It’s a 1” as it starts and then ten minutes later the ham-fisted Macho Man Tough Guy quietly mentions being married once and you can put your hands in the air and go “AYYY IT WAS 1” like your team just scored a sportsball goal

Truthfully though I think we need more 3’s

1. I want some 3s where nothing happened to the dog, it's just a damn good dog and the guy wants to do right by them

2. How do we classify mr. peabody and sherman

when you download a pdf and it's called like 1328723486basdf12.pdf but then you gently rename it to what it's supposed to be. that's forming a bond with a hurt and wild mythological creature and reminding it who it is.

How am I only just learning this!?
