The Swedish People's Party (SPP) has selected its chair, Anna-Maja Henriksson, as its nominee for Minister of Education, the party announced on Monday afternoon.
Henriksson is scheduled to leave her current post as justice minister in outgoing Prime Minister Sanna Marin's (SDP) caretaker government on Tuesday.
The SPP also nominated MP Anders Adlercreutz to serve as Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering and it selected MP Sandra Bergqvist as Finland's next Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity.
Steps to the new government
On Monday evening, government formation leader Petteri Orpo (NCP) met with President Sauli Niinistö to formally hand over a written statement that he is the NCP's nominee for prime minister.
In turn, the president issued a written statement to Parliament about the matter.
On Tuesday at around 11:15am, MPs are expected to elect Orpo as Finland's premier, which requires the majority of Parliament. However, Orpo's four-party coalition is very likely to draw enough votes, as they hold a majority in the legislature.
Later, at around 2pm, the president is scheduled to appoint the new government and dismiss Marin's outgoing administration. After that, Orpo's government will finalise the distribution of ministerial post decisions.
At around 3:40pm, Orpo and President Niinistö will again meet and each will hold speeches.
Then, members of Orpo's government have scheduled a press conference at 4:30pm on Tuesday.
Ministerial nominations
Orpo's incoming right-wing government includes the National Coalition Party, the Finns Party, the SPP and the Christian Democrats. The NCP and Finns Party announced their ministerial nominees on Sunday, the Christian Democrats did so on Saturday.
The Christian Democrats were handed the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry portfolio for the administration's full term, while receiving the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity portfolio for the government's latter two years.
On Saturday, the Christian Democrats confirmed their willingness to join the government, with party leader Sari Essayah becoming the party's nominee for Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.
The Finnish government announced last week how the incoming government would divide the ministerial portfolios among the four coalition parties.
