My poor little baby girl broke her arm! How? Well remember her new trick I talked about in my last post? That's how...
I was in the garage getting meat out of the freezer to thaw for dinner. I heard her sliding the chair around and figured she was going over to the phone. Then I heard a scream...the kind of scream where you know she's hurt, not just trying to get Kenadee in trouble...
I ran inside and Kenadee was carrying her and says to me "She fell off the chair, I didn't push her!" So I took her from Kenadee and looked her over for red marks or bumps and didn't see any. Kenadee told me that she fell on her head, but I didn't feel any goose eggs so I figured she must be okay, and was mostly just scared.
As the day continued on, she kept holding onto her wrist, but she wasn't really crying, and she was playing fine. She was carrying her dolls and purses, and pushing her stroller around like no problem. But that evening, I was playing patty cake with her, and when I was clapping her hands together, she started to cry. That's when I first got the feeling that something was wrong. But I still decided to wait it out. The next morning when she woke up, her wrist looked swolen. I started to press around on it, and when I pressed in one certain spot, she cried. I got a sick gut feeling that it was broken and that I needed to take her in.
So I called the doctor, and he said to take her in for x-rays and then bring her in. We took her in, and the lab tech that took the x-rays had us come over and look at them. She said to me, "Now I'm not diagnosing, but I think she'll be fine." So then I was all confused as to why I felt the strong need to bring her in. But when we went to see the doc, as soon as he sat down and looked at the pictures, he says "Well, she broke it." Once he pointed to where it was broken, it was obvious. It's actually a compression fracture and he says it will heal fine. The purpose of the cast is just to protect the weakened bone so that if she falls or bumps it, it won't snap.
Atleast they have casts now that you can get wet. They cost a little more money, but totally worth it. You can actually squirt the water down into the cast to get out all of the dead skin. Cuts down on itching and stinkiness! Besides that, how would you keep a 15 month old from getting her arm wet? Especially when she is a fish like Callie is.
Well the day after the cast was put on, Callie pulled it off. We couldn't get a hold of the doctor because of course it was on a Saturday. We finally had the on-call doc call us back, and tell us to wait until Monday, but to "just to be sure not to let her fall on it, or bump it" . . . So what, we lock her up? I didn't feel comfortable with that, so Rob actually just put her cast back on. It slid on pretty easily, so we'll see how long it lasts. So far, so good . . .

She is such a little trooper! I just love her to death! And look how teeny that cast is. I'm just waiting for her to learn to use it as a weapon in Kenadee!!
(On a side note, look how much darker her legs are than mine. SO unfair - I love her skin!!)
