The cynical part of me found this to be kinda manipulative and upsettingly cruel to its characters, who I ended up really caring about (though whenever father-Bob was on screen his idiot, aggressive lack of self awareness had me stewing in an incandescent rage - hugs and thoughts to anyone who actually has a similarly unforgivable prick of a person as a member of their family).
Nevertheless, this was ultimately a (bitter)sweet experience, with two fantastic lead performances, and my heart was ever so gently warmed.
