    My Dinner with Andre

    This is a film that feels like a moment of clarity. The setup is simple, two old friends meet for a meal and have a conversation, everything else about the film is rich.

    In the opening of another of his films, Black Moon, Malle instructs the viewer to treat it as an experience. I think the same should be said for My Dinner With Andre.

    Voyeur

    Voyeur draws a wavy line in the sand and decides where it's subjects stand on it but ultimately leaves it's audience to make up their own minds.

    It's an interesting insight into what makes a story and the role the author should take in reporting it. The use of a dolls house imagery is equally insightful and intelligent. No matter what you think about the subject, you'll always take a double look at the vents in your next hotel room.

    Uncut Gems is a masterclass in dread. As the film builds more and more towards its climax you clutch at your seat and try to hold yourself down.

    It's also a prime example of how you can like a film but dislike your main character. The important thing is that you can empathise. You can see why this character is making these decisions even if you don't necessarily agree with them.

    Missing Link

    For me, stop motion starts and ends with Aardman. That was until I discovered Laika Studios. It is fantastic to still have a company dedicated to producing stop motion animation for modern audiences.

    The dedication to detail is overwhelming and each set crafted with care and affection. While Missing Link does not surpase the high bar of their previous film Kubo and the Two Strings there is still much to appreciate from their newest adventure.
