Nicole Kidman get her freak on in Halina Reijn's Babygirl. Kidman delivers a committed performance but the film itself struggles to balance its own emotional weight and deeper themes while keeping a cohesive narrative. It's intriguing but not entirely new, and while there is tension and heartbreak it never digs deep enough to make anything resonate. Its not as fun as Bodies Bodies Bodies, but that's by design.

Kidman and Banderas are the powerhouses here, doing most of the heavy…

After watching Ava DuVernay's Selma I really wanted to check out her Netflix documentary, 13th, as a companion piece. It's a powerful and well-argued documentary that lays out the systemic racism that our U.S. prison system is built on. That doesn't mean I rated it the highest, The Lighthouse still holds that honor since I rate based on enjoyment, re-watchability, as well as technical factors, and damn I just love The Lighthouse.

But this is really strong. The lighting and cinematography are nearly in a category of their own, especially if you put…

Juno is one of Jason Reitman's (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) earlier works staring Elliot Page (Ellen at the time) as a high schooler mother-to-be and the complications that surround that social setting. It's a quirky, heartfelt "dramedy" that showcases Diablo Cody's witty, rapid-fire screenplay, a killer soundtrack, and standout performances all around. The banter in top notch thanks to Page's charisma and the comedic timing of Michael Cera and J.K. Simmons. It's also probably the most 2007 movie, ever.

    It balances humor…
