Definitely more low-key, moody, and introspective than I expected, it mostly consists of Odysseus moping around after taking Ls for the last 10 years before getting home. But, the moping is exquisite, because Ralph Fiennes is doing it. There is so much texture, so much meaning and depth to his performance, that it elevates it all so much. The pastoral scenery, mixed with the intermittent brutality also create an interesting back and forth with the film pulling you in and…

*Director's Cut*
Lost a half star for that horrible speech Orlando Bloom gave, but gained a half star back for the Bombing of Jerusalem.

Dune: Part Two 2024
Epic fantasy film storytelling hasn't been this elevated since The Lord of the Rings films. Denis Villeneuve is obsessed with Arrakis, and he sells the operatic, sweeping story with tremendous skill and beauty. The difficult task of taking Paul from a protagonist to a plot device is fulfilled with understanding and care for what the story needs from Paul, and what the film needs to comment on.

The Black Phone 2021
Really bland and derivative. Sort of sad to see Derrickson take all of his energy from leaving Marvel and make something so generic. It has strong moments and weak moments but never really has anything it's saying. Themes bud and die out without mention, and for a horror movie it's practically devoid of tension.
Not poorly made, but this seems to show that maybe Derrickson was just a gun for hire, and he doesn't know what to say without someone telling him.
Best part of the movie was the In-N-Out with Joe Bro afterwards.
