One of the rare films that ends stronger than it begins. Guy Ritchie's remake of Le Convoyeur has some asynchronous storytelling which was featured to better effect in his film The Gentlemen.
It also has Ritchie's signature dialog, full of ostentatious tone and affectations. Unfortunately, when scaled back for American mouths to sound out, they leave a flat, unnatural impression. Nearly everything James Wan has done since is better executed, has a higher degree of technical fidelity and editing finesse. This is probably the best thing JJ Abrams will ever direct. On point for the franchise, defined the brand for the cinematic age, and unlike his other “mystery box” works seems to know what it’s doing and what it’s about at all times. Absolutely fantastic.
