I really enjoyed this movie. The trope is one of the better rom-com ones (one that would never actually happen to you but sparks delight). I appreciated the reference to Pillow Talk and having the background knowledge to understand the parallels, and I enjoyed Pillow Talk more. I thought the leads in Pillow Talk were better actors than the ones in Down with Love.
I loved Christmas in Connecticut, which is surprising because I usually dislike old movies. I thought it was cute, funny, lighthearted and enjoyable. I particularly thought it was interesting how it questioned gender roles. The whole idea of it is that Elizabeth Lang creates this fantastical idea that she "has it all" and has perfected domestic life. In reality, she doesn't fit into this narrative at all: she is single, lives in NYC, and doesn't know how to cook or…

Get Out had a lot more depth than I initially anticipated. I had no idea race relations were a motif of it and dealt with in a lot of interesting and different ways. White peoples' attitudes and actions towards black people ranged from subtle micro aggressions to the kidnapping and slavery of black people. While I have seen––and often enough––micro aggressions and the fetishization of black people today, the kidnapping and slavery is obviously not so common. This begs the question if we are as far away from such horrible and violent treatment of black people as we (white people) would like to think.
I would recommend this movie for educational or discussion purposes. It is experimental in stylistic ways like movement, sound, and lighting. The movie uses slow motion commonly to sexualize and bring tension to seemingly innocent, passing moments. Many of the scenes have limited or high contrast lighting. Because English speaking viewers have to rely on reading subtitles to follow the plot, watchers have quite limited stimulation from the film, relatively speaking. It Is also interesting to see cultural elements. The plot is slow and lacking.
