Somehow, the musical biopic where our lead was replaced with a CGI monkey is perhaps the most honest one I’ve ever seen. Doesn’t necessarily avoid the standard trappings of this type of movie but almost takes a different approach because Robbie Williams is aware of how awful of a person he is, and how abusive of an industry he presides in. That, on top of some really memorable sequences in this movie made this a pretty breezy watch. Didn’t know Williams going into this, don’t know if I’ll actively seek his music out after, but regardless a surprisingly great movie that I wish was more seen.

“So could you just let me redeem the mileage?”

I’d be lying if I said this movie isn’t completely made by the Adam Sandler performance. What he’s able to bring to his character and movie through mannerisms that only he’s able to do is genuinely pretty incredible. Other than that, this is solid. Loved the editing and score, can definitely see the improvement in directing between this and Hard Eight, granted I have two monster movies within PTA’s filmography to get through that take place in between these, obviously.

A masterpiece in every aspect. The screenplay. The visuals. The sound. The directing. The performances. An unforgettable movie experience (for many reasons).

This movie and it’s prequel put together might be the greatest piece of cinema ever made.

Just an absolute mess, though not completely unwatchable, but this a misfire for me on every level. A musical without memorable songs, a thriller with no thrills, a redemption story with no redemption arc. There’s some good directing every now and then and some great cinematography. Saldaña and Gascón both have really good chemistry with each other too. Selena Gomez, however, feels wildly out of place here.

Unfortunately writing this feels a bit dishonest because I am just about as…
