I had seen this as a kid but had no idea which movie it was. I just remembered the zero-g pepto blood and the shapeshifter on the snow planet. Rewatching it, it’s a great adventurous send off for these seven characters who I have grown to love despite seeing very little of the original series. Maybe my favorite of them all? Khan is great, but its budgetary constraints are very obvious. This finally feels like a fully realized vision of what Star Trek should be.

Captain America: Brave New World 2025
I might have liked it better if the audience hadn’t been the absolute worst. One group got the ushers called on them, but even after that it was still basically nonstop talking, walking around, phones on. The whole audience. I could not believe it.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture 1979
I’m not a Star Trek completionist, and I’d heard this one was skippable, so I never watched it until now. The pace is glacial, no arguments here. But it basically functions as a great episode of the show wrapped in gorgeous and expensive visual effects. I got emotional at the end; this is what Star Trek should be. Exploration, communication, hope. I’d probably watch this one over any of the Abrams films.
