Currently exploring cult genre films from the 70s/80s/90s, largely horror/sci-fi.
It's been awhile...I've been busy with some personal projects...but I haven't stopped watching (or collecting) movies! Going to try and get back to these with more regularity.
Following the runaway success of JURASSIC PARK (1993), Hollywood took away two things:
1) Big effects driven Summer Blockbusters had the potential to be MASSIVE money makers.

The third of the so-called 'Corman Space Trilogy' which is made up of BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, GALAXY OF TERROR, and this film...FORBIDDEN WORLD (aka MUTANT). The three films are not connected by any narrative strands, but rather by the reuses of resources from all three films; models, footage, sets, and costumes.
The genesis of MUTANT (I'll refer to the film by it's original name, and the cut I watched is actually director Allan Holzman's original vision) is utterly fascinating…
THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1-2-3 (or however it is meant to be spelt :P ) is a movie I've heard about through cultural osmosis for a long time, but never had opportunity or, admittedly, desire to see until I recently came across KINO LORBER's excellent blu-ray release.
