    The Monkey

    ★★★★

Super impressed with Osgood Perkins The Monkey, from start to finish I had a great time!

He mastered the fine blend of horror with humour for me, witty one liners that seamlessly fit in to the dialogue of Stephen King's creepy story. Perkins' cinematography and imagery choices also shine through here; striking in parts and subtle in others.

Theo James excelled in his dual role, creating two totally different characters and mastering both of them.

Lots of fun, and a step up from Longlegs imo, but I know it may not be the same for everyone!

    Kill

    ★★★★½

Kill brings a non-stop fast paced gory action movie to the forefront of Bollywood cinema, with an opening scene that I was so invested in, I was surprised by the title drop 40 minutes in.

With excellent fight choreography and leaving no character safe, it's a movie that deserves attention. Every single character has a part, adding to the narrative throughout.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did and it's a movie that seemed to fly under the radar for me, gutted not to have seen this in the cinema!

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

    ★★★½

A better addition to the Bridget Jones world than it's predecessor, Mad About the Boy gives its usual laughs in the right places for me.

Probably more emotion filled than the other entries, giving it a much more mature feeling.

I'd have loved just to focus on Bridget and what she navigates minus men but this was still a fun time!

  • Videodrome

    Videodrome

    ★★★★

Unsurprisingly another good body horror from David Cronenberg; but almost baby steps compared to The Fly.

A message that's arguably relevant even today with media and technology obsession, Videodrome is a fascinating and engaging watch.

The visual effects are great and definitely become more disturbing as the movie goes on.

    MaXXXine

    ★★½

Unfortunately MaXXXine doesn't round off Ti West's trilogy as much as I'd have liked, and is the weakest of the three imo.

I had high hopes for an 80's nostalgic slasher/mystery movie but the characters and script were really lacking anything interesting, what could have been a fun nod to retro horrors just felt a bit copy/paste.

Mia Goth carries this whole trilogy and has been the well earned star for all three movies with her differing performances.

  • The Substance

    The Substance

    ★★★★★

The Substance: What has been used on one side, is lost on the other side. There's no going back.

An energetic, fast paced and well done movie from Coralie Fargeat who manages to blend the Hollywood glamour with the price people pay to have it, the overaching theme of The Substance is always there and Fargeat displays it with minimal dialogue, directing the cast to use their physical acting skills to portray her message.

The sound design and music choices…
