What a treat it was to watch this in taiwan on the memorial day of the events they are remembering through this film. Something about sharing this experience with an audience who were all watching with bated breath felt so poignant!!

I felt so upset halfway through the film, and weirdly so at a romantic montage shared between the two main characters. There was just an overwhelming sense of dread and bleakness that plagued the film. Are our fates already pre-determined by our families and our upbringing? What are the chances that we can escape the mould of our families?

An ode to youth and passion and friendships, to making mistakes and learning from mistakes, the stark realisation that the world exists in shades of grey, and most of all, knowing that even in the bleakest situations, there is still room for compassion and grace.
