  I’ve watched this too many times and there’s still a few scenes that get me. Gene Hackman knew how to play an asshole/son of a bitch. Side by side with the Life Aquatic shows how much Anderson can redeem (or at least soften the edges on) an unlikable asshole.

  really really torn. I almost came away feeling like it was good, even great. but i think that was just a strong final act and the appearance of Willem Dafoe. I like a lot of the things Eggers added and embellished on from the general mythos of both Nosferatu and Dracula but I’ve seen so many adaptations it honestly seems like an insurmountable task to make something new enough to be worth it. enjoyable watch nonetheless. also jump scares made…
