  Where Alex Garlands lack of character development skills finally catches up with him. It's fine to have shallow archetypes in Annihilation and Deus Ex, but you needed fleshed out, compelling, complex characters for Civil War to really shine, and it's definitely lacking that.

  Stunning set design and art direction. Strong writing and compelling acting. I'm really feeling this new generation of "smart sci-fi" (see coherence, moon, upstream colour). There's some plot holes that aren't really addressed as the movie ends but meh, who cares. This is good stuff.
