At first this felt like it was going to be an adventure comedy with some heartfelt moments, whose trans representation had aged terribly, but then this film warmed my heart and then tore it out of my chest over and over for 45 mins straight. This is my first Satoshi Kon and I’m definitely gonna take my very intense reaction to it as a sign to watch the rest of his films in 2024!

Bottoms 2023
Disappointing- I love the 2 leading ladies and I love silly gay shit but this didn’t do it for me at all. I thought it was messy and the bizarre fusion of absurdist, woke, mean, gen z, #relatable jokes fell so flat for me. Seems like there were so many ideas and directions they wanted to go with this that it ended up going nowhere.

This was really fucking solid, one of the best modern slasher films I’ve seen in a while. It paid homage and stuck to the formula of its predecessors yet added layers which made it eerie and intoxicating. I really enjoyed the parallels between the protagonist and antagonist, left me not only terrified of old white people but also the concept of aging. Got a good few screams out of me, which isn’t much of an achievement tbh. It looked amazing…
