just a really cool movie. the lighting is incredible and there are so many gorgeous shots and lee is going wild with his camera movements (complimentary). the story itself leaves a bit to be desired and that last 10 minutes was a little too neat, but it's a really interesting change of pace for lee after making one of the great american films the year before.

the lack of subtlety in the film's message isn't exactly ideal, but it can be forgiven. not that i find "families need to stick together" or "try to see the good in people" as particularly interesting or unique messages. it feels kind of empty for a film that apparently has a lot to say when it just kind of ends up saying... nothing.
the biggest sin is it's just painfully unfunny. so many cringey gags filled with john oliver style…
