On it's upmost surface, Columbus is a story of a young man's journey of learning to want to repair burned bridges between him and his comatose father, as well as the story of an even younger woman struggling to find the will to progress with her life while feeling the need to care for her ex-meth addict mother. Morocco could have been a good film. It had the qualities and the spirit, but applied these in all the wrong ways. Connecting with the characters was nearly impossible; their motives and intentions were unclear from start to finish, their backstories nonexistent.
The main characters by themselves were likable enough, until they acted with complete disregard to reason -- for instance, Tom tells Amy he wants to desert and run away to Europe, and he invites Amy to come along.…
