I was struck by some parallels to Goodfellas. It’s the story of a young person who desperately wants to rise above their means and lot in life. It’s similarly propulsive with great humor throughout the first two acts plus the same chaotic and madcap energy. Unfortunately for Ani, we also see her lose almost everything like Henry did in the third act.

I really wanted to watch the 2018 Truth or Dare, but I didn’t wanna pay to rent it. I watched this instead and I don’t think it could possibly be less interesting.
Stewart and Gandofini are good, but there’s not much else here to grab onto.
I watched this because I heard it inspired the Anora criterion cover and I had very little expectations. The cinematography was pretty unbelievable.
I don’t think I would have ever asked for Director Bong to make a spiritual successor to Okja with his blank check movie, but this was a great time at the theaters. The two big complaints are the exposition dump in the beginning and uneven performances outside of Pattinson and Ackie. The metaphors are certainly on the nose throughout, but that didn’t bother me too much. I think Pattinson’s made for this type of black comedy and he carried so much of the burden.
