    Gremlins 2: The New Batch

The kids were so into Gremlins that when I told them there was a sequel that was better than the first, they were all in. Gremlins 2 is bursting with all the creativity and imagination that was missing from the original.

Certainly, apart from Kate's magnificent revelation about why she hates Christmas, Gremlins 1 is a cozy movie that rarely strays from the expectable. It does what its meant to and does it fine, but it never seeks to delight…

Very pretty. I put up with the running chair and goofy cat, but they wore on me. Then the whole last quarter was like watching a lifeless MCU movie. It was missing so much of the connectability of 5 CM/S and Your Name.

The absolute most boring thing a movie can do is have fight scenes.

Unless that movie is this movie.

Oh my heavens. The Summit Of The Gods adaptation is just gorgeous. I'd wondered how they could match Jiro Taniguchi's illustrations, but of course they can't and so they do their own wonderful thing. I'd also wondered how the story would survive without Taniguchi's art. Would it still be thrilling, would it still be invigourating? And it absolutely is.

It's a different experience for sure but absolutely worth your time. Big moments that made the book so indelible are cut…
