Electric Atmospheres – Ethereal architecture of urban datascapes

In collaboration with the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre and Altair Engineering, Richard Vijgen simulates the behaviour of the electromagnetic cloud from a single cell-phone in different urban environments and visualize how the electromagnetic waves are absorbed and reflected by their surroundings. The results reveal an invisible dimension of reality, a hybrid of architecture and data, as cathedrals of information.

This project uses iterative AI-generated imagery to explore model collapse, where AI drifts from original concepts over time. Reflecting on humanity’s reliance on technology, it highlights ethical concerns and risks of losing authentic connections to reality, challenging how AI shapes perception and truth.

Do Antennas Dream of Electric Skies? Poster based on experimentation with GenAI

Do Antennas Dream of Electric Skies? is a poster featuring a selection of GAN-generated images that depict post-industrial dystopian landscapes, each dominated by a central antenna-like structure. The training dataset comprised images of friendly blue-skied environments with an standard TV antenna at their center, which is in stark contrast with gloomy output of the model—perhaps akin to a machine’s dream of antennas.

HIDDEN ORDERS – Microstructural Machine

This drawing machine uses the properties of crystalline structures as the drawing unit, and the dynamic staggered arrangement of controlled crystalline structures to create a miniature landscape, attempting to strike a balance between the properties of natural materials and human control, and to explore the natural order hidden in the natural materials.

Continuig their exploration of fate and chance using dice in their works, Life and Death of an Algorithm 2024 (33,782 White dice, evolutionary algorithm) by Troika is the latest (and largest) itteration of the work they produced–currently on display at Langen Foundation as apart of PINK NOISE exhibition presenting ambitious new installations by the the Franco-German trio.
