Instructions: 1. Attempt all questions.
2. Figures to right indicate full marks.
3. Draw neat sketches whenever necessary.
4. Assume suitable additional data if required.
5. All symbols and notations have their usual meaning.
6. Assignment will not be considered after the due date.

Q.1 i. Define transfer function. What is proper, improper and strictly [4]
CO1,BL1 proper transfer function?

ii. Give comparison between open-loop and closed-loop control

system.
iii. Give time domain specifications. Indicate on a general time
response of a system subjected to a unit step input.
iv. What is steady-state error? Give classification of control systems
based on type of systems.

Q.2 Draw the mechanical equivalent network and write the differential [5]
CO1,BL3equations governing the behavior of the mechanical system shown
in Fig. 1. Obtain analogous networks based on f-V and f-I analogy.

CO2,BL3 𝑘
𝐺(𝑠) = 𝑠(1+𝑇𝑠). For this system, overshoot reduces from 60% to 20%
𝑇𝑘1 −1
due to change in 𝑘 only. Show that = 43.33.
𝑇𝑘2 −1
where 𝑘1 and 𝑘2 are the values of 𝑘 for 𝑀𝑝 = 60% and 𝑀𝑝 = 20%
respectively.

Q.5 For the system shown in following figure, what steady state error [6]
CO2,BL4can be expected for the following test inputs: 10u(t), 10tu(t) and
