My WIPs

Hi I am Ari, a fantasy, sci-fi author and TTRPG designer,

One of my friends once said I am like an over crowded stovetop. I have many things simmering at any time but a few are boiling over and I am going to talk about those now!

Kairav

Kairav is book one of my seven book epic fantasy series, Last War Of Vei.

Seven royal children of Cimori are exiled to seven countries as reparations for a war their power hungry father started and died in. Kairav is sent to the mountainous country of Miorne. He soon finds that the war has left lasting scars on the face of their damaged world and his actions to please is father in the war might have doomed them all.

Currently on second draft.

Black Sun

Black Sun is a TTRPG that works on the PBTA system.

The world ended when the dead returned. It started again when the survivors realized they could quiet the Returned with happy memories from their life instead of violence. Thus, a quieter solution to the apocalypse was found in the ruins.

Currently in re-writes after initial playtest.

“Screw it, it’s just us walking together against the world.” - Khaotung

i'm not particularly interested in crowing about usamericans being worried about their livelihoods right now but i do hope that every yanqui currently freaking out realizes that what they are experiencing now as freak abberation is like a fraction of the economic instability experienced regularly by people in e.g. latin america

like you are currently microdosing what argentinians have been going through for the last two years while you were yelling at them for suggesting that living in the usa was a privileged position. unfortunately i am not naive or christian enough to believe that suffering is edifying so i doubt this will result in increased understanding from usamericans when a global southerner is a little rude about hamburger on the computer but wouldnt it be nice

“every time i see this celebrity they look younger!” cool, it’s plastic surgery

it’s not pilates, it’s not skincare, it’s not moral virtue manifesting in the form of physical beauty, you’re not gonna grow old like that, they didn’t even grow old like that, and the cosmetic procedures you can afford are not gonna look that good

also the new popular comment to make is "lol [actress] has taken the substance" and it's like...yeah. that's what the substance was about

moment of unspeakable beauty today when one of my coworkers called another coworker "judas" for not splitting a can of white monster with her, and i got to watch the guy who sits next to me open a new google tab, type in "jeudis," and say quietly to himself "french thursday...?"

Twenty years ago, February 15th, 2004, I got married for the first time.

It was twenty years earlier than I ever expected to.

To celebrate/comemorate the date, I'm sitting down to write out everything I remember as I remember it. No checking all the pictures I took or all the times I've written about this before. I'm not going to turn to my husband (of twenty years, how the f'ing hell) to remember a detail for me.

This is not a 100% accurate recounting of that first wild weekend in San Francisco. But it -is- a 100% accurate recounting of how I remember it today, twenty years after the fact.

Join me below, if you would.

What's that bro? You began interacting with a media from a different country than yours and/or was made in time period different than the recent present day? Haha that's sick bro! Keep expanding your horizons bro! You're remembering to take into account that sociocultural norms, gender roles and genre expectations are different from what you are used to and meeting the story halfway, instead of forcibly superimposing your ideals into the story, right bro? Right? Right?

And, like, you're aware that being asked to understand that the story was written in a time and place with different values isn't the same as being ordered to embrace or worship those values, right? You get that you can simultaneously comprehend why those values exist within this media and think critically about how it contrasts with your own view of the world? You can hold both "I understand why this culture at this time would have acted like this was okay" and "I understand now that this isn't okay" in your mind at the same time?
