Time for a Toy #1 - WFC Siege Optimus Prime
For the first of these I’d figure I’d like start with one of the most box standard Transformers I own. When trying to explain size classes to people, Optimus is always my go to example of what the basic Voyager should be.
Appearance-wise he’s everything you could want, with all those iconic Optimus attributes, plus the Siege flourishes of silver scratches and some “cybertronian” aspects, only really visible with these completely new wheel casings on his legs.
I find the elbow kibble to be a non-issue, since it melds nicely with the shaping of his arms, and gives this version of Optimus more distinctive from others. However, the backpack is quite annoying, since though it’s relatively small and not really visible from the front, it is really separate from his frame.
Last thing for robot mode: I like the wheel placements under his arms. I really enjoy when OP’s front wheels are visible somewhere within the torso, and this is unique from most of the others who place them either out the back or in his shoulders.
The transformation works great, with barely any force required. He’s like the only recent Optimus figure I’m aware of who doesn’t rotate at the wait to position the trailer bed. As a result, he has one of the most complex calf transformations of any G1-inspired generations Optimus figures I’ve seen. The result of this leg transformation is also fully dedicated panels that the gas canisters are on.
I am SO thankful for this. I really dislike the thigh flip out canisters that Earthrise, Laser, and Rise of the Beasts Optimus have, since they’re so loose and never stay in the right place in either mode. This methods leads to a clean thigh, and a sturdy feeling alt mode.
This is where the kibble and Cybertronian parts really come into play. This truck is a BEAST. He condenses a bit, but I can totally feel this thing demolishing everything in its way.
Forgot to mention earlier: his accessories include a so-so shield/axe thingy, but then also a STELLAR and iconic Optimus Blaster.
Overall, I would consider this a VERY good figure. He’s the only G1 (ish) Optimus I own(beyond the core class), and meets all expectations of such a figure phenomenally. If you’re looking for a non $90 86 Optimus or hyper overpriced aftermarket Earthrise one, this is a great pick. 9.5/10, highly recommend.
