NASA Announces Moon Will Be ‘Turned Off’ for Maintenance Tonight

April 1, 2025

In a shocking announcement, NASA revealed early this morning that the Moon will be “turned off” for routine maintenance starting at 11:59 PM EST tonight. According to officials, this is part of a long-overdue lunar system update to improve visibility, optimize tidal efficiency, and install a state-of-the-art “dark mode” option.

“We’ve been getting reports that the Moon’s brightness has been inconsistent, and some areas experience lagging lunar phases,” said Dr. Alan O’Toole, head of NASA’s Lunar Operations Division. “It’s time for a software refresh.”
