I am Ahmed from Gaza, 26 years old. We were displaced from our home and it was completely destroyed. We are now living in shelters. Due to the circumstances and low income, we are unable to provide the necessary benefits such as food and drink due to the crazy increase in prices. Thus, my source of livelihood has been destroyed, but it has been completely destroyed, as we are no longer entitled to work; and we expect to live in miserable conditions in the shelters. It is difficult for me to find the words to describe what we face every day in the shelters; without food, medicine or clean drinking water; with the oppression, helplessness, psychological pressures, doubts and daily shocks caused by everything around us and the inability to care for our loved ones. The fear of danger, disease and death never leaves us.

Now, I find myself in this difficult situation, and I humbly ask for your help to save the lives of my family, especially my father and mother, by getting us out of Gaza to Egypt and building a new life outside Gaza or helping us get money to buy the necessities that we may be able to afford. Asking for help is not easy, but we had no choice because we want to survive and strive to rebuild our shattered lives. We are very grateful for any help you can offer, no matter how small, as your help will go a long way in alleviating our suffering. I hope you will share my story with your family and friends.”

one of the most important things you can do as an ally to trans women is defending her first. it’s important to be aware of her own needs and her fears of being removed for causing problems so you don’t alienate her from a cruel but necessary family connection or something, but while keeping that in mind, if you’re in a social situation where someone says something shitty or implies something transmisogynistic to her, don’t just sit there and wait and watch what she does and how she might stand up for herself, stand up for her. in the past when transmisogynistic things happened to me while with friends, almost every time they flattened behind me and silently waited to see how i dealt with it. save your girls the stress and the loneliness and be there for them first, be around them, be beside them, make them know you have their back, especially if you’re not a transfem; people will actually listen to you when you say it’s bigoted

This advice cost me a friendship. The most important thing is to actually talk to your friend beforehand and ask her what she would like. It’s not worth it to act a white knight if it makes things worse. You might be blamed for the abuse she’s witnessing.

I really think a big issue is that many TME people are not calling out transmisogyny when trans women aren’t around, so they have zero practice doing so when trans women are being directly targeted in front of them. It’s not “white knighting” if you are responding the way you always do when someone is transmisogynist in your presence, it is just being consistent in not tolerating it. To the best of our ability* we should all be doing our part to not let transmisogyny slide in our interactions. You should be confronting it where you see it consistently, especially when everyone else acts like nothing transmisogynist happened.

* (please no one misconstrue this in bad faith as me saying to disregard physical safety, but also please don’t raise the potential of physical harm that someone somewhere might face in a different situation as a reason why you, in a physically safe but perhaps socially delicate situation, abandon trans women. cause that’s not okay. be real with yourself and be consistent and principled)

hi i know “don’t believe everything you read on tumblr” has been said enough times at this point in the website’s tenure but i want to specifically say that there is a problem on tumblr and other social media where well-known science enthusiast accounts basically build trust as Knowing Things and then they can say anything they want about those things & everyone just believes them. this is especially a problem among ppl posting about ecology & animal science in my experience.

i’m absolutely throwing stones in my own glass house bc i almost never used to include sources on my wildlife science posts on my old blog but these days i try to make a point of it & i think others should too.

i don’t even think anyone is lying or making things up on purpose. i think they’ve just heard it from another source they consider reliable & they’re spreading incorrect or incomplete information without questioning it, to a much larger platform. about ten years ago I myself made a post repeating something a wildlife professor said to me, which turned out to be outdated info and mostly inaccurate. i trusted him as a source, but i should have looked at the data before sharing it to a wider audience. it was an important lesson!

basically idc how many times popular content creators on here or any other site/app have been correct about other things in other posts. you should still make a habit of asking yourself “what’s the source?” even when it’s a blog you like & trust. bc let me tell ya, i have seen some doozies lately

Maha @mahafamily1 needs to have an emergency hysterectomy! She recently had a miscarriage, and if she does not have a hysterectomy NOW, she will die!!

The doctor told her EVERY MINUTE OF DELAY DECREASES HER CHANCE OF SURVIVAL!!! Minute-by-minute, we are losing Maha!!!

Because her recent emergency operation had to be paid on credit, and is not yet paid, Maha now needs to pay the full cost of the hysterectomy up-front before the procedure will be done!!! She urgently URGENTLY requires $2000 USD in order to survive!!!

MAHA IS DYING AS I TYPE THIS!!! I am in tears begging you all, do not let medical bureaucracy take such a beautiful soul!!!!

To add to her problems, she still owes $3000 USD for a previous emergency surgery, and the hospital will have her husband Ahmed imprisoned in 2 full days if they cannot make the payment.

Maha will not be able to recover if the debt is not paid because the hospital will once again refuse all treatment unless it is paid in full up-front. And that will be even more difficult to do if Ahmed is in jail and the hospital brings legal action against their family!!

Maha is still in recovery and is in an extremely vulnerable state!! The area outside the hospital is rife with all kinds of disease, if she is kicked out of the hospital SHE WILL DIE!!

We were not able to raise the required funds for one campaign today, I don’t want it to happen again. We narrowly avoided disaster this morning, I don’t think we can be so lucky this time unless we raise the required funds!

She is without any treatment to recover from her infection, without money, without clothes other than what she’s wearing, and without shelter.

She and her children are homeless on the street in a heavy rain storm. She is still sick and weak. She does not know her husband’s whereabouts and is extremely worried for him.

To say this is a crisis situation is a radical understatement. A very sick mother and her two small children, one of whom is also severely ill, are stranded in an IOF kill zone with only rain and cold as constant company.

This is the second campaign goal we have failed to meet in 24 hours. I really don’t know what to do. This world hates Gazans and hates women. Gazan women are doubly victimized.
