I mean, in the Umbara arc she is show piloting a Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor and I looks like there's a purple astromech in it:
But because this scene it's just in the intro of the episode I don't know what to think about it.
I'm kinda of inclined to believe this is actually Luminara's droid, but that's just the voices of my head.
I couldn't find a wookipedia page on this specific droid, and I checked to see if they appear on that droid arc with R2D2 where they save Gregor, but there's no purple droid there. And I'm pretty sure that's purple.
would you be willing to share more of your thoughts about barriss's relationship with luminara? i feel like they interact very little in both canon and--for obvious reasons--your series, even if the shape of the relationship is clear. i'm most interested in how much of barriss's whole deal you envision luminara being aware of; is she being distant on purpose or is she just clueless? but i'd be interested in any tangentially related ideas you have as well. it seems like you always have something insightful to say that i've never thought of before
I think Luminara was actually aware of how Barriss felt, but underestimated the seriousness, didn't know what to do about it, and couldn't imagine Barriss becoming so volatile. Like almost all of the Jedi, Luminara considered it the order's duty to do their part in the war, and Barriss is her apprentice, so she doesn't get to sit this out no matter how much trauma and brain damage she gets.
An idea I had for Luminara is that despite the elegant style, she's kinda average. For a Jedi Master, "average" is still a highly trained, educated, psychic superhuman, but she is average. From what little we see of her she isn't a particularly skilled fighter or strategist compared to other Jedi. That's not meant to criticize her, as I don't consider combat to be a good measure of a Jedi, but she's not great or particularly smart. Luminara took on little Barriss as a padawan, found her to be intellectually gifted on top of the knack for healing, and wasn't quite sure what to do with the girl.
The bombing plot is often criticized by saying it makes no sense for Barriss to protest war with violence. Part of Barriss's message is that violence is what she's been taught to do. She is directing lethal force against people she believes are a threat to peace. It's not the first time she's set off a bomb in someone's home. Not the first time she's killed clones. Not the first time she's killed civilians. That's what Jedi do, apparently. This is her apprenticeship.
In my work, Barriss goes from idealizing Luminara to accepting she was far from perfect. Though Barriss shifted blame for the bombing primarily onto Palpatine and herself, a hundred horrible things happened to her while going along with Luminara's instructions. Barriss still loves Luminara, but she's also a little mad at her and gets burned out just thinking about it all.
Funny you should ask about this now, since I've been working on related stories. A few excerpts are below the cut.
This is fair. And makes for great drama. I draw a lot from Legends, and have been influenced by @jedimasterbailey so I have a different take on her. In Legends they were so close they could mirror each other’s saber moves.
It strikes me that Lumi definitely wanted to be easy on her, since she had Barriss stay at the Halls of Healing after Geonosis affected her negatively. I think she thought this would give her time to acclimate to wartime, but second guessed it after the bombing.
Don’t get me started on bad faith readings on Weapons Factory. That’s cold porridge. When she and Skywalker save the girls look at her expression when she calls out to Barriss.
Also, I think I solved the riddle of why Ahsoka is in Cloak of Darkness with Luminara and not Barriss. It’s because they blew their season 1 budget on the feature film, had the model for Luminara from the temple scenes of the movie, and couldn’t afford Padawan Offee yet.
Thank you @stellanslashgeode for tagging me in this, I’m happy that I am able to continue to share my love of our favorite Mirialan pair. I think what people need to remember is that the Jedi were thrown in the most impossible of situations and there is no way any parental figure could prepare for the ramifications of having their very young Padawan’s in war. That was not the Jedi’s doing, that was all Palpatine and the Jedi were vehemently against it (per canon book Brotherhood). In other words, no Jedi Master wanted this life for their Padawan including Luminara and I like to believe that she felt in her heart of hearts that she did everything she could, what she thought was for the best for Barriss. In the end like Anakin, like Ahsoka, like Dooku, etc. Barriss made her choices and I don’t think it’s fair to reduce these personal choices to the lack of intelligence, power, or competence of a mentor. It’s not fair, but that was the whole point of the Clone Wars. The only winner was and would ever be Palpatine. The Jedi were never perfect nor should or could they because at the end of the day Jedi were sentient beings that did the best they could and like humans, they make mistakes, which is okay so long as they learn from them. Female characters, specifically females that are portrayed as ethnic never seem to get out of misogynistic and unfair not so hot takes.

But it course she has never acted on it, so she engaged with it as she does every intellectual pursuit. By reading up on sex manuals through the holonet with a VPN. But, this being Barriss, she’d also want to do a lot of historical research as well. So when she gets a chance to actually discuss sex with a partner she’s using terminology for acts that went out of favor hundreds of years ago.
I need to know @jedimasterbailey's thoughts on this.

Barriss would absolutely do anything BUT ask Luminara or anyone else she trusts for sexual advice because should rather die than know that her mother and everyone else know that she has such thoughts. Furthermore she does not want to imagine Luminara ever having had sex ever because she is pure in her eyes and she would rather hit the books to impress Ahsoka later than be caught not knowing anything. I can only imagine Ahsoka’s face when Barriss be rolling out these outdated sexual acts 😂

Given the material we have for Barriss in canon, what other stores/directions with the character would you like to see Barriss be taken?
With Tales of the Empire, I think Barriss' story is mostly complete and the only thing I really want to see addressed is how this played out with Luminara, it's absolutely criminal that they never even gave us a sliver of Luminara being involved with anything of Barriss' fall. I want to see Luminara first finding out, I want to see Luminara going to visit her after her confession and imprisonment, I know there can't be any catharsis there, Barriss is still steeped in the dark side by the time Luminara dies, but I want to see the heartbreak of those scenes. I want to see Barriss eventually finding out what happened to Luminara, I would love to see Barriss eventually recovering her body and giving her a proper funeral and helping to put that part of herself to rest. I want to see her eventually reuniting with Ahsoka, that they can never go back to what they once were, but they can help heal each other in a way both of them need. I don't think any of these parts of the story are absolutely necessary, they'd be more like short stories in an anthology or comic mini-series somewhere, but those are the stories I would love to see her for.

Barriss switched the water off and ducked down to the corner where her first aid kit was. She rifled through the kit until she found what she was looking for. Trauma shears. This was definitely not what they were intended for but they would have to work. She went back to the sink, looked in the mirror, then decided she couldn’t stand looking in the mirror, so she turned around, then started sniping. She cut just above the nape of her neck, watching black clumps fall to the floor. She would probably regret this later but she needed to go to sleep without being a walking biohazard. Barriss averted her gaze from the mirror when she went back to the sink to re-rinse her hair. It was probably a shitty job but it would be hidden under her scarf anyway. Eventually Master Unduli would see it but that was a future Barriss problem. She washed any stray hairs left on her neck and shoulders off in the sink, then grabbed a rag and scrubbed away at the blood left on her skin. When she was finished there was still some blood left under her fingernails and her dirty clothes and cut hair to deal with, but she would do that after she slept. Her short hair was strange, she kept trying to run her fingers through her hair or expected the feeling of it brushing against her back, but it was gone. Seven inches of hair gone in half an hour. That had to have been what, nine years of hair growth? Whatever.

Oh my goodness Vee!!!! Your WIP is incredible 😍 I never considered the idea that Barriss had cut her hair during the war rather than the idea of her having always had short hair, I love it! I appreciate writers like you that go the extra mile to tell the untold stories and to delve into Barriss’s trauma in which canon will forever refuse to do.

“When Barriss fell from Lyn’s blade, she did not fully process what had happened. She was not feeling loss nor did it occur to the healer that this was the end. She was not hearing Lyn’s cries of regret or even Master Luminara’s calls from the other side assuring her that everything was going to be alright. Rather all Barriss could think about was Ahsoka and all Barriss could feel was sadness. Sadness that the love of her life was not the one catching her, that she had let Ahsoka go in anger, and that it was too late. Too late for Barriss to tell Ahsoka she was sorry and that all she wanted more than anything was to love her forever and always. But soon her body will become lifeless, lost in a cave on an insignificant planet far from wherever her warrior was now.”

Hello Tumblr, it’s been a while but all these deluded assumptions about who would replace Kathleen Kennedy if she truly is stepping down as President of Lucasfilm allegedly by the end of the year have me heated once more. Why are people so insistent that Darth Felonious (Dave Feloni) and Jon Favarau would be the natural potential leaders? Kathleen’s role is more financial more than anything else; she produces projects allowing them to happen she is not part of the creative process one bit; so why would creators take that role? Second I can’t help but notice the more successful recent Star Wars projects (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, etc.) have nothing to do with these individuals; if anything those two lovebirds are always producing the more controversial/beaten to Death Star Wars projects (I.e. 3rd Season of Mandi, Ahsoka, Bad Batch, etc.). Thus my second question is why to people suck these guys balls so hard. It’s exhausting and no I will not be entertaining the love fest those two seem to generate within the fan base.
