Please note: this was a midterm ballot question. This only passed because people showed up to vote for something other than president. Please don't ignore local races.
Reminder of the importance of midterms.
And if your reps aren't putting these measures on the ballot? The importance of primaries and locals.
I don’t care if you make fun of Catholicism as long as it’s accurate! The best humour has its roots in the truth.
“You can be mean to me but there are RULES about it” is the most Catholic thing I’ve ever seen.
I walked into that one
Telepathic aliens enjoy that humans will "play music" for hours at a time. When it's too mentally quiet on deck, they just announce the catchiest song titles they know and the humans will start thinking about it automatically.
The humans hate this so, so much.
Zorf: Human Steve, can you please play that song I like, the one with all the females
Steve: what
Zorf: A little bit of Monica in my life
Steve:
Steve: mother fu--
I feel like this would get Space HR involved eventually
this is about procrastinating. or executive dysfunction. i think
"How can platonic BDSM be a thing". It's whatever Sam Reich is doing to his friends on Game Changer actually.

Tiktok's censorship of words like rape, kill, murder, abortion etc. etc. as well as censoring hard to hear topics, over the past few years has deeply contributed to the sanitisation of the internet and therefore directly resulted in the birth of "fandom purists" and the destruction of old fandom culture (the death of "don't like, don't read", "ship and let ship" mindsets as well as safe spaces for dark and "immoral"/unethical storytelling i.e "dead dove: do not eat") in a way that has fundamentally changed the mindsets of people who are new to fandom spaces and now view these such topics as wildly inappropriate for any social space as well as deeming anyone who is intrigued by them narratively or creatively as "immoral" and a bad person. In this essay I will
Oh for fuck's sake, fandom purists were around LONG before TikTok. They were in the fanzines. They were in LiveJournal. They were in ff.net. The reason ao3 doesn't have forums is that those things attract fandom purists and mass bullying. There were no safe spaces, no "ship and let ship". People tore each other apart over ship wars. They bullied young writers out of writing. They sued each other or convinced authors to sue fan writers they didn't like. They gatekept and flamed and cyberbullied and left entire communities collapsing in on themselves.
I am so, so, so sick of people transparently trying to pretend that fandom used to be a great place where we all lived together in harmony before the Fire Nation attacked. The reason for the "ship and let ship" "YKINMKATO", and other sentiments wasn't as a community rule, it was push back AGAINST toxic fandom. If you didn't see it until now, I'm glad you were lucky to have a good fandom experience. But don't go spreading the idea that TikTok invented purists, or toxic fandom, or ship wars, or morality.
If you need any citations, Fanlore has a pretty good write-up of the origins of purity culture in fandom, as well as disproving the idea that it didn't exist "back in my day". It's also probably worth it to read about Strikethrough and Boldthrough.
The easiest mistake you can make as you get older is to assume that all of these problems are new and that your generation was too good to get involved in it. Don't let nostalgia blind you into thinking you and yours are immune to being toxic fans.
okay but if you ever see a male creative who had a string of great work and then everything else he did was dogshit, go to the "personal life" part of his wikipedia and look at his relationships. you'll either find a major tragedy he didn't recover from (completely understandable) or, more likely, there was a woman in his life doing uncredited shit editing his stuff or contributing generally and she's not there anymore.
I told a friend about this phenomenon in literature and he called me weeks later like, I remembered what you said about women doing uncredited work when tim burton came up. he made a string of bangers then everything else just was nowhere near as good. the timeline matches perfectly to when he was with this german visual artist (lena gieseke). he's done some good work in collaboration, but if things were dug into I suspect we would find she did a lot more than people realise.
so yeah whenever you look around like wow women didn't work in history, or, women aren't auteurs, or, there just aren't as many great female writers - societal reasons for that aside, half the time they absolutely did.
Hell yeah
Oh that's a tumbler or roller pigeon! They're bred to do this! It's believed that the original inclination to tumble in the air was a tactic to avoid being caught by flying predators, then this inclination was bred in favor of doing it more. Some breeds can also fly normally for hours as well, and the most sound breeds are those that can make safe landings still. There's whole shows and competitions around tumbler pigeons!
There's more unsound breeds of course as well, but this one clearly has good control of its flight and landing. Well done pigeon!
you guys know you can get USB connectable CD, dvd, and blu-ray players right. and you can buy external hard drives with crazy amounts of space for an amount of money that would make the average person from 2009’s head explode bc of how cheap it is. and if you do this and get ripping software such as handbrake for CDs and DVDs and makeMKV for blurays you can both own a physical copy of whatever media you want and make it accessible to yourself no matter where you are. do you guys know this
lots of people are reblogging this and tagging it #piracy—i should clarify, this is not piracy! ripping DVDs and CDs to have your own copy is fully legal, because it’s your legal right to do what you will with your property individually. it only becomes illegal if you then distribute that file on the internet.

I know somewhere there's a hip grandma who survived breast cancer and her transmasc grandson who would love a matching set
lets settle this properly
I have a theory
You know how canaries were historically brought into coal mines, because if the mine was full of carbon monoxide the canary would die first and the miners would be able to escape before they died too?
I just found the greatest thing.
This is a canary resuscitator.
When the miners notice the canary getting sick with carbon monoxide poisoning, they can close that circular hatch so no more gas gets into the canary cage, and open the valve on that oxygen tank to keep the canary breathing. In other words, they made a spacesuit for birds.
By immediately giving the canary access to clean air, the miners can save it from the poison. The bird lives. To be clear, this is not for economic purposes, this was specifically created because the miners felt bad and wanted to save the bird.
Isn’t that just the perfect demonstration of what humans are like? We started sacrificing small creatures to save ourselves, and then felt bad and spent our valuable resources on saving the critters too. Because yeah the canary was the only way to test for CO, but it’s a living creature too, dammit!
