Last Hours, Surprise addition, A few yards away

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Having our “Work To 8:30” shift cut an hour and being sent away early to enjoy the rest of 2008.

~ Meeting up with Aunt Jeannie, Liz, and Bob, at
Hawthorne Valley for dinner. Our crew originally thought we’d have today off, and so I planned to go out with them. Due to a vote on Sunday, the majority led us to unfortunately work until 8:30, rather than 6:30, and have Saturday off. I told my family I couldn’t join them for dinner after receiving our work schedule but, yay!, fate had plans of her own.

~ After arriving early at the restaurant at 8:00, I asked if our “Reserved For 8:30” table was ready. I was told it was being cleaned and would be ready soon. I sat in the hall and waited for my family to arrive. At 8:25, I went back in to see if the table was ready, and waited for my family. At 8:30, I was given the table, and waited for my family. I was given our bread basket and water, and waited for my family …and waited and waited and waited and waited. I got up to leave at 8:50, wondering if things were OK with my family. I heard a voice yell at me as I walked to my car. I thought it was the waiter ready to charge me for the bread stick I ate. I then heard my name and thought “How do they know my name? I never gave it to them.” I turned about and it was Bob. They arrived ahead of time and had been seated at 8:00, probably just before I arrived, and were finishing their salads at the opposite side of the room in which I just sat moments before.

Making Quesas, Day spent in, Smart Smokie

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Using my quesadilla maker for the very first time. I had received it for Christmas years ago and, even though I love quesadillas and often order them at restaurants, I never had never used it. It makes really good quesadillas and I’m sure I’ll be using it more often. One can of refried beans equaled to three 10” quesadillas –food for a few days!

~ Staying in my warm and comfortable home all day long on my day off

~ As I kneel on the floor looking for a newspaper article I saw several days ago, Smokie decides to stand on my back for a few moments. Balancing himself on all four paws, he reminds me of a dog I once seen ride on the back of an elephant at the circus. He then jumps to the top of a dresser he wouldn’t be able to get to otherwise. Smart cat!

Winter Songs, Melted Snow, Pet me Now

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Listening to Sarah McLaclan’s Wintersong CD as I drive about this week-end. I checked it out from the library yesterday and I enjoy it so much, it’s such a warm and soothing sound, that I’ll probably end up buying a copy.

~ The snow on the sidewalk and driveway has melted away, thanks to the current spell of 40-degree weather.

~ Waking up in the middle of the night to Smokie head-butting my hand so I’ll start petting him.

Dad laughing, Tree lights, Graveyard wreathe

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Cracking dad up with silly jokes in regards to things we are seeing on TV, before we head out to Montana’s for dinner with the gang.

~ Driving past an apartment building at night and seeing a young couple, 2nd floor, decorate their Christmas tree that they’ve placed next to their window. Blue lights only.

~ The iron-barred entrance to Northview Cemetery, a small Dearborn graveyard, has a small wreath with white lights hung upon it that shines in the night

Mail call, Sweet scent, Wickedly fun WordJong

TODAY I SMILED...

~ After receiving a 1st class bulky letter in the mail with $1.17 placed on for postage, addressed to “Molly”, someone who doesn’t live in my house, I decide to track down the sender and deliver it myself, rather than write “return to sender – wrong address” and send it back to the post office. I look up her phone number on-line, call, and speak with a man who knows Molly, but not her address. After I arrive home from work I notice the answering machine light blinking. It’s the sender, who is very appreciative and happy I am helping her resend her nieces birthday card, giving me the correct number to write over my number and telling me to just pop it back in my box and the postman will take care of it. I am happy to help her, I know I wouldn’t enjoy needing to make another post office trip to pay even more money and send a card out twice.

~ Relaxing with the scent of Lavender incense permeating the air

~ Finding Club Pogo’s WordJong to be a most addictive game, as I play until 3:00 in the morning

Playing the Club, Christmas toys, Cat calendar

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Joining Club Pogo, now I can play every day without those irritating ads popping up! I especially enjoy Trivial Pursuit, Word Whomp, and Jigsaw Treasure Hunter.

~ Receiving all four Webkinz, ordered from Amazon.com, for Anne and Sara’s Christmas presents in the mail today, especially cool since they each came from different locations. For Anne there is a love frog and a hedge hog. For Sara there is a squirrel and a reindeer. For me there is knowing that I don’t have to keep waiting and hoping that they arrive on time.

~ The lady who sits at my desk in the day shift has hung a calendar with sweet cat pictures on it on our wall. So cute!

Stare down, A jewel of a bird, Fire drill

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Watching Smokie and a squirrel check out each other nose-to-nose on opposite sides of the front window

~ A beautiful Cardinal, the ruby of the bird world, flies onto the porch railing while I look at the snow outside.

~ A 10:00 PM fire alarm at work breaks up the monotony and gets us all huddled up as a group outside

Traveling Telegraph, Holiday cards, Silly strings

TODAY I SMILED...

~ The work taking place on Telegraph, the main road that I drive 12 miles to and from work on, is nearing its end after a few years. What has been 35 MPH is once again 45 and more lanes are open.

~ Receiving pretty Christmas cards in the mail, some from people I haven’t heard from in quite some time

~ Smokie sees the tie ribbons on my bathrobe and seems to believe I’m wearing a new toy for him to play with.

Sweet treat, Friendly chatters, Angel invite

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Passing by a Ghirardelli’s dark chocolate and raspberry candy bar at Border’s , I can’t resist the temptation to splurge a couple extra dollars. Dark Chocolate and raspberry is my ultimate favorite candy combination. I savor a square in the car, enjoy a few bites later in the evening, and tell myself that I can make myself happy tomorrow by saving some till then.

~ Although I’m usually quiet and keep to myself, especially in bookstores, I enjoy a small conversation started by a lady near the bargain books, then one with a woman who begins speaking with me near the calendars.

~ Receiving my invitation to the Angel Club Christmas Party in the mail. It will be held on Wednesday, December 17th, at Ginger’s Tea Room. I’ve already planned for this and have requested the day off from work.

Shoveled snow, Soda scent, Going home

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Backing out my car to go to work, I see snow has been shoveled from my front sidewalk by an unknown neighbor.

~ The scent of Faygo Rock & Rye fills the air after unscrewing the top off, and I instantly realize that it’s one of my favorite aromas.

~ We see the words “Waiting For Calling Assignment” pop up on our computer work screens at 7:00, followed by Joe yelling across the room “If you ain’t got a call, you’re not getting a call!” It’s always lovely to get off early!

Games with dad, False Alarm, Good meal

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Spending the afternoon with dad playing an intense Checkers game, which ended with a three kings versus three kings tie, followed up with one and a half games of Yatzee.

~ Dad points to his card in the last game of Bingo played with 30 or so senior citizens, staff, and me, telling me he has only one more number before a straight line Bingo can be called. I whisper that we’re in a cover all game, so if it’s called, don’t yell “Bingo!” Naturally, as fate enjoys humor every now and then, that number is the next called. He looks at me wide-eyed. I say “don’t call it!” “…BiINGO!” I reassure everyone the game is still on.

~ Dinner at Max & Erma’s with dad, Liz, Bob and AJ was very good (and quite cheap!) tonight. I simply had a bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup for my main meal, accompanying it with a overloaded stuffed potato.

Christmas greetings, Up and away, Bingo!

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Finding a pretty box of Christmas cards to send for the holidays, and they were on sale 50% off.

~ My co-workers laugh at how quickly I get up and run away from my desk at closing time. My new desk is on the opposite side of the room but I’m still the first to make it out. As I left tonight I joked back saying, “8:30 is 8:30!”

~ During Carole’s visit this morning she mentioned that dad was a big Bingo winner Monday night at his home, winning $4 on the final cover up. Go dad!

My Christmas 2008 Cards
"May the joys of this season be with you throughout the coming year"

Wing by wing by wing, Chop and tweeze, Snooze time

TODAY I SMILED...

~ Watching a beautiful group of birds fly about the sky, turning here, swooping there, almost as if they were connected in a single spirit

~ Tina mentioned that I look as if I’m glowing today; Karen said that I look different but she doesn’t know why. Perhaps it’s from chopping my bangs too short on Saturday, which lead me to wear my contacts again to balance my forehead, thus leading me to arch my brows which looked sort of bushy! It’s funny how looking better has originated from a mistake!

Me "glowing" ...with some choppy-looking bangs!

~ Imagining this bed to be the most relaxing spot in all the world, until Smokie comes and cozily snuggles on my lap

New mags, The jokester's back, Classy hat dude

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Receiving my first issue of Good Housekeeping, a one year subscription I’m receiving free, thanks to Kroger’s. This is their Christmas issue and cheery Paula Dean is on the cover, making it even more delightful.

~ As I look into an old e-mail box I notice that my brother Steve is back on-line after having computer problems for quite some time. His funny jokes will once again be coming around to crack us up.

~ Walking out of the office I smile at Joe, he smiles back at me before I get to my words ”You always look so so classy with those hats you wear!”

...And speaking of Steve's jokes, here's the latest:

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates. "In honor of this holy season" Saint Peter said, "You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven."

The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. "It represents a candle", he said. "You may pass through the pearly gates" Saint Peter said.

The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, "They're bells." Saint Peter said "You may pass through the pearly gates."

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties. St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, "And just what do those symbolize?"

The man replied, "These are Carols."

Helloooo Laptop, I Love It -Yea Yea Yea, Pleasing after tweezing

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Picking up my laptop from Best Buy. I took it in a week ago after it flat-lined and wouldn’t come back up. The moment I showed it to the Geek Squad it came on. He kept it a week for a diagnostics test. My bill was zero; I still have no idea what was wrong with it. It died as I was looking at an e-mail greeting card featuring a turkey being stabbed in a Psycho shower scene I was going to send my cousin. I think it scared my hard drive just a wee bit.

~ Still thinking about the movie Across The Universe, a video I picked up from the library and watched two days ago. When a movie stays in my mind and keeps me smiling two days after watching it I can safely say it’s one of my favorites.

~ Admiring my results after giving my eyebrows a much needed beauty treatment.

Danny Boy, Sweet Nibblin, Hello December

TODAY I SMILED…

~ Watching Daniel Radcliffe, one of my favorite actors, on Inside the Actor’s Studio. He has an easy-going and natural charm about him that makes me smile.

~ Nibbling on unbaked chocolate chip cookie dough; some dough is created to become delicious cookies, but then there’s dough that has a much shorter life span and is relished before it even makes the baking sheet. Yum!

~ Turning the calendar to a new picture
