Wonderful Welcome, Wake Up Call, Fringe

TODAY I SMILED...

~ After opening the door to Eva’s room dad sees me, gives me a big smile and exclaims “There’s my sweetheart!” I go over to give him a kiss and big hug. His Alzheimer’s may be getting worse but he still remembers me when he sees me.

~ I was a bit nervous last night when I saw that my alarm clock was broken. I needed to get up early this morning to fill dad’s pill case and bring it to him before I left for work. I called Aunt Jeannie late last night to see if she could ring me at 9:30 this morning to make sure I was awake. I woke up very early today (well, my eyes were open) but I went to semi-snooze on the chair, knowing she’d be calling. At 9:30, right before she calls, Smokie comes pouncing on me as if he knew it was wake up time and his task was to make sure I did so!

~ After my Friday night ghost shows, I watch Thursday’s episode of Fringe on-line. It’s my favorite show and I love being able to catch up with it when I have the time since I work during its slotted broadcast time. I have seen every episode and yet never off the tellie!

NEWS OF THE DAY: I visited dad today, and gave the nurses his pills for next week. Eva looked very tired. Dad was very much alert, very happy to see me. He doesn't remember my name anymore but he knows me when he sees me. He spends much of the day in Eva's room, yet doesn't recall her name either. It's funny how the brain works. Eva keeps bringing up how much money they could save if they moved in together. This may be so but her health is deteriorating more (she is 95), and dad's Alzheimer's is getting worse.

Dizzy Dream, Doll Face, Chilling With The Classics

TODAY I SMILED...
~ Realizing that the dream I had this morning about being late for work was just that, just a crazy little dream

~ Seeing the pictures Kristie shares with us on Facebook of her 4-month- old sweetie Sara

~ Listening to my favorite classical music as I drive home from work. After hearing rudeness in people’s voices pour out all night over the phone lines, Bach and Beethoven sound even more beautiful.

NEWS OF THE DAY:
I wanted to get some Taco Bell after work but saw that the windows are boarded up and the lights are off. My going-home-from-work Taco Bell is closed! I haven’t had Taco Bell, or any fast food, for about a month, which I’m really quite proud of, but I saw a picture of that new Chicken Ranch Gordita and want to try it. I’ll get my Taco Bell fix when I’m more desperate for it and don’t mind going to the other side if Telegraph or driving down to Michigan Ave. (or stop closer to work, around 10 mile).

The phone rang around midnight and I thought it was going to be Aunt Jeannie. I was just about to pop my Swanson boneless fried chicken/mashed potatoes/corn/brownie TV dinner into the oven and watch “Destination Truth”. It was Bette, who sits in front of me at work; she had a hard day at work and wanted to chat a bit. I wanted to just chill out with my food and my tellie, but I empathized and listened. It’s nice to know that I’m not always an inconsiderate "B".

Fall Arrival, Pretty Pictures, Happy Birthday

TODAY I SMILED...
~ Welcoming Autumn –my favorite season of the year! I especially love October; I enjoy October so much I’ve considered putting the word on my license plate!

~ Looking at Autumn avatars before I head out to work. Autumn pictures are beautiful with their colored leaves, pumpkins, apples, etc.

~ Hearing LaRonda greet me with a “Happy Birthday, Melissa!” No, it’s not my real birth date, but I wish her a happy birthday all year round just for kicks because she sort of starts celebrating hers a month ahead –and so vibrantly! In return she wishes me a happy birthday throughout the year too!

NEWS OF THE DAY: Today would have been mom's "real" birthday if she was still with us. She would have been 75. She always celebrated her birthday on September 12th because that was the date her doctor accidentally put on her birth certificate. And because that was the date she always celebrated being born on, that's the date we put on her tombstone. It was ironic though, the first time dad and I went to the place who made it her last name misspelled upon it! It was the first time that ever happened to them they told us, they showed us that their order form had the name spelled correctly! I think it was mom's shout out to us that she saw what we did!

Markita told Pam and I that Karen had a heart attack today. Karen just found out a couple weeks ago that she has a hole in her heart. Karen worked with us for a couple years and was fired about a week ago for using her cell phone on the job after being told not to several times. I hope all will be alright for her.

Lunching With Angels, Terrific Thrift Clothes, Taking On Tai Chi

TODAY I SMILED...
~ Lunching with the Angel Club at Claddagh's Irish Pub in Livonia. There were four of us (Sherry, Liz, Aunt Jeanie and I) this month, it was a fun and relaxing get-together.

~ Finding some really cute clothes at my local thrift store! A beautiful green Pea Coat, powder blue sweater, nice gray sweater, and a gorgeous green empress-style blouse cost just under $6.50!

~ My first Tai Chi class was quite cool! It was relaxing, fun, and very, Very detailed (and we only accomplished a couple first steps!)

ANGEL CLUB LUNCH: Claddagh's Irish Pub in Livonia with AJ, Sherry, and Liz. I ordered Guinness Onion Soup (the second after I accidentally ordered "French Onion Soup" I rectified myself!), fish sandwich, fries (and requested some of their Irish onion dip & seasoned sour cream for dipping) and ice tea. AJ asked if I'd like to split a Bread Pudding. After reading "Warm & Tipsy Bread Pudding -Homemade with Brioche bread, apples & raisins, finished with whiskey cream sauce & fresh whipped cream. Definitely big enough to share!" I definitely agreed! It was all very delicious! Lunch, including tip, was $25

NEWS OF THE DAY: I enjoyed driving Hines Drive on this quiet, rainy morning. Listened to my favorite CD to relax to, "The Most Relaxing Classical Album in the World...Ever!"

It's been fun meeting with the Angel Club once a month these past few months but I think they'll be changing their lunch day back to Thursdays -a day I can't make due to work. I'll ask the for the day off for their Christmas party, as I always do. I may start up a Angel Meet Up Group to get together for lunch on Mondays.

Our Tai Chi teacher, Wendy Williams, told us that to keep our minds focused, on and off the tai chi floor (she specifically said "in traffic jams" as well!), we are to keep the tip of our tongue touching the back of our front two teeth. She even demonstrated it with two students, by pushing down on their raised right arm, how we are weak when we don't and are strong when we do!

I watched Dancing With The Stars. I liked Mark Dascascos the best, though Donny Osmond was quite good in the new dance off section.

Off Work Early, Taking Tai Chi, Art's Achievement

TODAY I SMILED...
~ We were let off 50 minutes early from work tonight -I love it when that happens!

~ Signing up to learn Tai Chi classes beginning tomorrow at HFCC. It's something I've wanted to learn for a long time, something I think I'm really going to enjoy.

~ Seeing pictures of the wonderful house Art built in Texas. He did a great job. I really like the patio, it looks like a very peaceful area where one can truly relax and meditate.

Funny card, Neighborly, Girl Group

TODAY I SMILED...
~ AJ called to ask if I could stop at a store to find a funny get well card she could give to a man who just had a heart attack and lives in her apartment. I found one that made her laugh, and it was free of charge for her -it came from the unused greeting cards mom had!

~ After pulling out of my driveway I have the chance to say hi to a new (as of a year ago!) neighbor living across the street as she got into her car with her son. I asked how she likes her house so far, she replies with a smile "it's nice...thanks!"

~ Four young ladies walk into the gas station parking lot singing as I am pumping gas. I tell them they sing good and one replies "I'm trying out for Idol! Vote for me, my name is Ariana!" I give her a thumbs up and tell her I will.

SATURDAY NIGHT DINNER: Richard's in Livonia with AJ and Bob. I had French Onion Soup and Richard's Special Seafood Platter, which consisted of crab cake, scallops, coconut shrimp, stuffed shrimp, deep-fried shrimp, fries, and rice pudding. I downed it all with iced tea. Bob asks "Now here's the question of the day! Who wants my pickle?", knowing I'm about to quickly answer "I do!"

NEWS OF THE DAY: Liz called Bob today to tell him her flight to Spain last night was a nice one, although she was wide awake for the whole trip! She mentioned to me last week that she was sure she'd sleep through it. Their dog, Hairy Callahan, already misses her. He's a one-year-old Golden Lab who's used to Liz taking him outside to go potty in the mornings. After Bob woke he went to see a dump and a guilty-eyed dog in her bedroom. Poor baby. I told him Hairy's gonna show her some attitude when she returns!
