I got an email from Kevin Derrick, a member of Philadelphia based design house M.O.N.A. (Made On North American) who has created this room in the Dog Haus, a designer showhouse that benefits the SPCA's Dog Haus project, a designer showhome whose proceeds help abused and neglected animals in the state of Pennsylvania.


The Drawing Room re-interprets the home's lineage into a surreal, neo-Romantic boudoir with references to 19th-century themes that include decorative lacemaking, silver gelatin print photography, the industrial revolution and classic horror novels, amongst others. In order to highlight the broad capabilities of their professional network, M.O.N.A. produced every single piece of furniture and the larger portion of decorative accessory for this room. Signature items include a white oak tete-at-tete, silver-leafed rocking horse/buggy, electroformed copper fireplace screen and antique settee with handcarved, painted wood and patent vinyl upholstery. A strong axis of half black/half white invites further drama into the space while likewise creating an innovative play of texture and pattern.

I'm sorry about the lack of updates here lately, but I'm in some kind of a funk right now. Things aren't happening the way I want them to, and some of the people I care about are going through rough times, so I'm feeling kind of low and out of inspiration at the moment. I just got an email from L'Affiche Moderne, a great webshop for modern art posters, introducing one of their new artists; Dan-ah Kim.

This poster, entitled When the world sleeps, immediately gave me some very strong emotions, and I love how it captures so much of what Autumn means to me. I can really feel the chill of the strong wind, and the smell of rain clouds and decaying leaves as I look at this. It also reminds me of the many long drives in the countryside I used to take with my ex boyfriend. Does it affect you as strongly as it did me? If so, I'd love to hear what kind of feelings it evokes in you!

While browsing Konsthantverkscentrums (Center for Arts & Crafts) web I found Meta Braconier, an artist who mixes unique ceramics with photographic prints. She mostly works with articles for every day use, but I fell for these more artistic pieces with their lovely colors and patterns. Nostalgic but not too cute.

I'm falling in love with Uli Schade's photos. The light. The colors. The simple styling. It's all so good.

I'm sure many of you have heard of the New York based architects Fernlund & Logan? Their work has been around the blogosphere for a good while now, and for a good reason. It's great. However, I'm not so sure that all of you have seen the home of the founders Solveig Fernlund and Neil Logan, so that's what I'm going to show you today. It's a white and grey painted loft space furnished with American and Scandinavian midcentury design classics that are really being given the breathing space they need to look their very best.

I'm really liking the simplicity of the products from lamaisondemarina.

Graduating from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College (UK), the Belgian designer Marina Bautier set up her own design practice lamaisondemarina in 2002, back in her home town, Brussels. She works on a wide range of projects, from products to interiors. Developing her own designs for manufacturers, interior projects for private clients, as well as self-initiated projects.

As you all probably know by now, Elisabeth Dunker from fine little day and Camilla Engman has joined together to form Studio Violet. And now their first lovely products are available here!

I just recieved an email from UK based photographer Carl Pendle, saying that he's looking for new stunning homes to shoot. So if you have a house that can match the beautiful interiors in the pictures below, just shoot him an email at [email protected]!

So, finally, here is my post about the Hem 2008 fair that I went to last week. As usual the trend exhibitions made by different designers and decorators were far more interesting than the actual fair booths. This years theme was "Grönt är skönt" (≈Green is Good), and it was very visible in the exhibitions but not at all in the booths of the shops and furniture companies. That is why I choose to only show pictures from the exhibitions. They were all about reuse, organic products, and thinking green.

Yes, I know I'm one day behind on my posts, and that I promised you a post on the Hem 2008 fair yesterday. But I have been busy. So busy I haven't even been home for several days. So I hope you forgive me. I'm working on the fair post, but it's taking some time. Time I don't have. Maybe tomorrow.

I've shown you this kitchen before, but since it is my absolute dream kitchen, I want to show it to you again, this time built in an apartment in the city of Luleå in northern Sweden and featured in Sköna Hem. It's called Gallery, and was designed as a graduation project in Anna Irinarchos' last year at Beckmans Design School. It has since been snapped up by one of Sweden's largest kitchen manufacturers; Marbodal, and will be in production next year.
The genius thing about this kitchen is the combination of open recesses (lit by built in led spotlights) for displaying your favorite china, and the option to hide the rest behind the cupboard doors. The holes in the doors also function as handles.

The Swedish branch of international charity organisation Save the Children are opening a webshop at the end of this month, where you will be able to buy limited edition design objects from designers and illustrators like Cassandra Rhodin and several other big Swedish names. I think this is a great opportunity to actually do some good while you are shopping. Why not get your Christmas presents from their webshop this year? I know I'll be putting the black hanger below on my wish list...

This has nothing to do with interior design, but since I've been staring at this picture for three days now, I just wanted to share. It's a photo of my new style icon, Kate Lanphear, Style Director at US ELLE. I desperately want her wardrobe. Google her name and you'll find lots of pics of her awesome outfits.

Pia Ulin is one of Swedens top photographers, she shoots for anything from exclusive decorating magazines and books to stylish ad campaigns. Last night I was re-reading an old deco book called Ett eget rum, which she shot. The book is all about personal homes with clever solutions, and it's one of my absolute favourite interior design books. It was published in 2001, but still holds up very well style wise, isn't that pretty amazing?!
Anyway, while reading the book I got an appetite to see more of Pia's pictures, so I clicked away to Link Image, where I found an amazing treasure of no less than 884 photographs by Pia! Here are some of my favourites:
