Style Clashes

The photo studio in these shots have been featured in so many shoots lately that I am almost getting a bit tired of it. It is gorgeous, I love the vintage tiles, but a little more variation in locations would be nice. Unfortunately almost all old buildings in Sweden have been completely renovated, so there are no rough or industrial places left to shoot...

This feature from the latest issue of Elle Interiör is styled by Nanna Lagerman and shot by Idha Lindhag. The theme is "Style Clashes" and Nanna has created great proof that price has nothing to do with style, by mixing cheap high street products with designer pieces into a lovely and stylish setting.

Update! This giveaway is closed. Congrats Frida R!

Christmas Calendar 15/12: Iittala

Today's prize comes from Iittala, and it is a 6 pack of their brand new glass Lempi (worth € 63),  arriving in stores in January.

And I have a little treat for you! It's a short interview I made with the designer of today's prize; Matti Klenell. Klenell is one of Sweden's most prominent designers, with a list of clients like Muuto, Offect, Moooi and Svenskt Tenn. One of the things that makes him unique is the fact that he works with both furniture and glass, both practical products and more artistic pieces.

I was a little surprised by the relaxed attitude in Matti's answers, he comes off as quite humoristic and very down to earth. Rare qualities in Stockholm's design scene! So I highly recommend using Google translate to read the interview if you don't read Swedish, even if it lowers the quality of the text a bit...

If you would like to see a short film (with English subtitles) where Matti speaks about the Lempi glass click over to Fiskars' blog Design Day by Day.

To enter the giveaway and have a chance to win, just answer the questions below:

1. Which product is the prize in Design Day by Day's Christmas Calendar today?

2. What makes the Lempi glass special?

This giveaway is open for 24 hours, until 12.00 CET December 16. A winner will be announced here and contacted via email.

Alaïa Lofts

Fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa has converted a 300 sqm loft hosted in a traditional 17th century building in the Marais district in Paris into three exclusive apartments/suites.  It really does not get more boutique than this.
The idea behind these three 100 sqm apartments is for the visitor to get a feel of the true Parisian life. It is a hotel concept which incorporates the necessary facilities of daily life. Each apartment has a private entrance and once inside, a complete fitted kitchen meets all the needs of the guests. Alaïa's aim was to achieve a true feeling of a home away from home.

Sneak peek...

I'm so excited about the big giveaway that Hip Villa is sponsoring for Christmas Eve that I just couldn't wait to give you a little preview! I chose all the products myself, so I have to admit I will probably be a little jealous of the person who wins this... But this package doesn't open until Christmas, so you will all have to wait a bit!

You should check out Hip Villa's site, it's a great shopping experience! They've got cleverly written texts about everything, you can browse for products in several different ways, and if you have a question or would like help with anything, they have a chat service that is open 24/7. Plus, they are selling some of my favorite brands like Muuto, Hay and Seletti, and of course lots of other great brands.

Below is a video with Rob talking about his work. There are more videos on the Victorinox Tomo site where Rob shares lots of tips and tricks for paper cutting. You can also download his paper cutting templates to try this beautiful art form yourself.

Some stunning photos from the portfolio of Dutch architect and designer Stef Bakker. I love this mix of white, gray and black with the oak parquet! And the shelving and tiles in the kitchen goes straight into my inspiration file for my future kitchen renovation.

Christmas Calendar 8/12: Anve

Today's prize comes from Anve, a small Portugese company making unique handmade goods in small editions, inspired by their discovery tours through Lisbon, a beautiful old city full of hidden workshops and warehouses, and also their past lives in places like Berlin, Basel, Vienna, Cape Town and Tokyo. Simplicity and high quality is key.

Anve is offering a chance to win a Laboratorio lamp, worth € 120, made of a vintage borosilicate laboratory flask with a lamp socket in brass, rubber and porcelain and a fabric covered wire. Creative home from Elle Interiör

Christmas Calendar 7/12: Appartement

Appartement is a small design shop in Stockholm selling a carefully chosen selection of Scandinavian design items. They are sponsoring today's giveaway with a Sky Planter Recycled, a flower pot made of recycled plastics that let's you hang your plants upside down in your ceiling, freeing up floor or table space and also creating quite a conversation point in your home. Perhaps it would even work for a small Christmas tree?

This cool design won the 2011 Red Dot Award for its use of recycled materials and its integration of a Slo-Flo internal irrigation system that is able to water the plants directly at their roots. And to make it extra fool-proof for those with less than green thumbs, each plant even has a little water level measure and a mess-free locking disk to hold in the soil.

To have a chance to win this, just tell me why you want it in the comments below!

This giveaway is open for 24 hours until 12.00 CET December 8. A winner will be announced here and contacted via email.

Book review: Naturligvis by Kirsten Visdal

A little while ago, I saw a book review on a Norwegian blog of a book that looked really interesting. The book was called Naturligvis, or Naturally in English, and I immediately started thinking about where I could find it in Sweden, or find a webshop that would ship here. Then I got an email from the publisher, asking if I would perhaps like a copy of this new book? I was so happy! The book arrived and I can't stop looking at the 270 pages of wonderful photos! They are shot by Nina Dreyer Hensley and Jim Hensley, two very experienced food and interiors photographers who have shot a whole bunch of books before.

The author, Kirsten Visdal, has chosen 13 Norwegian homes with a truly Scandinavian style. Some homes are more modern and others have a little more rustic, country feel, but what they all have in common are the natural elements. The colours are soft, the materials are natural, and creativity is flowing. If you can read Norwegian you get a deeper view into the homes, learning what the owners made and changed, what the thoughts are behind their decorating and so on. This is all very interesting and inspiring, but I would have loved the book even if I didn't understand the words!

Below are some of my favourite spreads from the book. Can you see how they are all very different, but they still have many things in common?

Ps. I later found Naturligvis in Bolina's webshop. One of the homes in the book actually belongs to Hanne, one of the owners of Bolina, so of course they sell the book. :)
For my Swedish readers, it's available at Adlibris.

Christmas Calendar 6/12: Lightyears

I know you all loved the last giveaway that Lighyears sponsored here where you could win the Calabash pendants, so I'm sure you will love this just as much! Because this time they are generously giving away one Caravaggio BlackBlack P1 pendant light (worth € 180)!

To get a chance to win this, just answer this question in the comments below:
Which lamp from Lightyears is your favorite and why?

This giveaway will be open for 24 hours, until 12.00 CET Dec 7. A winner will be announced here and contacted via email.

This giveaway is now closed! Congratulations Jonas, I have emailed you!

To get a chance to win this, just answer this question in the comments below:

Stylish enough to be left in sight, which is where it should be to be available when you need it! Christmas is the most dangerous time of the year regarding home fires because of all the lit candles, so a fire extinguisher should be a given accessory in any home.
