Death Proof is my least favorite Quentin Tarantino I have seen (Still need to watch Jackie Brown). This film lacks character depth and engaging writing, despite the interesting visuals. The film nails the 70s grindhouse aesthetic with grainy images, editing “mistakes”, and purposeful scratches on the film strip. Writer-director Barry Jenkins has made one of the most affecting films of 2016 with Moonlight. Each component of this film is outstanding from the raw performances, to the unconventional music, to the stunning camerawork. The subtlety of the three actors that played Chiron worked so well with their character. Chiron is so quiet, but manages to say so much with his eyes.
