A very subtle film in which not much happens. That pretty much sums up Meek's Cutoff, a film about three families crossing the Oregon Trail with the help of an incompetent guide. Throughout the entire film I kept hoping that Michelle Williams' character would just shoot Meek and put all of us out of our misery, it would have made for a much more entertaining film, though the subtly would have been lost.

All I can really say about this film is that it was made way to early, the events depicted in the film happened in recent history and many people could probably retell it as it happened. If something new can't be said about the event is there a point to making a film like this? Eastwood likes to make films about American heroes and it shows with how he depicted Sully, he almost felt a bit self-righteous and that didn't endear me to his character despite being played by the always charismatic Tom Hanks.

This is a very subtle film and much of that has to do with the portrayal of Chiron by the three actors at different stages of the character's life. Though he doesn't speak much Chiron has the ability to say so much simply through his looks. His interactions with the adults in his life are so poignant and it's evident how much he has been failed by the woman who was meant to care for her. Moonlight is an interesting insight into the life of someone who is unsure of who they are and doesn't have the resources to figure it out.

As heist movies go this one seemed to focus far too much on the preparation aspect of the heist than the actual heist which seemed to have taken all of ten minutes. Several of the secondary characters didn't seem to have much of a purpose other than to attempt to have the viewer sympathize with the men they were connected to.
