The trailer for the first movie made it look vapid but a friend convinced me to give it a chance. I found it surprisingly creative despite seemingly obvious influences. The sequel continues the bleak story in a way that's compelling, stylish, and gruesome. And apparently the director is remaking Possession.

Alien: Romulus 2024
Entertaining with some good tension. The sets look great and so do some of the effects shots. The story is kind of a generic rehash but works as a framework for the action and suspense.
Prometheus, in contrast, had more moments that I found annoying but was more ambitious and gave me more to think about.

The Brothers Grimm 2005
Terry Gilliam is one of my favorite directors, but I found this almost entirely unremarkable. I say almost because I do like the mud monster scene.

To Live and Die in L.A. 1985
William Friedkin died yesterday, and I decided to watch one of his films that I hadn't seen yet. This one gets going right away and never lets up. I like the part where the guy in prison disparages "that galactical warrior movie," which has to be an expression of Friedkin's feelings about Star Wars overshadowing Sorcerer in the theater.
