That was the slowest hold-up ever.

Blue Steel is a decent cat-and-mouse thriller, with some great action sequences and good performances. Unfortunately, it does suffer from a contrived plot and features possibly the worst policing I’ve ever seen - a lot of bad decisions are made in the attempt to catch the killer.

    Shaft

    ★★★

I wished I liked this more. Shaft is ultimately a film in which Richard Roundtree struts around New York to the sounds of Isaac Hayes while not doing very much. Roundtree gives a decent performance and New York provides a great, grimy backdrop. I thought the ending was good, but unfortunately the slow pace made it feel like a slog to get there.

My life is very ordinary, very boring. Which is good, because it's solid.

A career thief looking to get out of the business agrees to take on one last big job, but we all know how these plans turn out.

Thief is a fantastic directorial debut feature. It’s a stylish, slow-burn neo-noir featuring an excellent performance by Caan, and great cinematography and screenplay. Neon lights and rainy streets make for some great shots.

The score was a bit too much in places and the cops were a bit too cartoonish, but they’re only minor gripes.

Poor Things is a gorgeous looking film featuring stunning cinematography and set and costume designs. Great performances by all and the script was brilliant. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was expecting and it was a bit longer than it needed to be, but I’ll definitely give it a rewatch.
