This has one great idea, turning a yakuza story into a Zatoichi type film, but not much else. It feels weirdly cheap which is the main thing hurting it.

Elementary Phrases 1994
32 short films about the soul leaving the body. I really love these Solomon collabs and should seek out some of his solo films. These collabs are some of Brakhage’s best work because of a fundamental difference I think I’ve finally figured out. Brakhage’s main tools of expression are light and movement. Occasionally he evokes the third dimension by adding time to the mix such as in Black Ice. These films also evoke the third dimension, but instead through texture. This is a really lumpy film replacing a lot of Brakhage’s blacks with bubbles, crinkles, and spikes.

Beasts of the Southern Wild 2012
If this isn't the worst film nominated for best picture it comes pretty close considering how it offends all senses and sensibility. This is just an incompetently made film with stuff out of focus and a shaky cam that makes Greengrass look sober.
