Jomala church is a rural church dating to the thirteenth century. It is the only church in Finland representing the Romanesque period. An archaeological excavation of the medieval nave and the choir was carried out in 1961. It yielded a total of 594 coins of which at least 134 are medieval. The impact of the Lutheran Reformation on church doctrine and practice, and the effects on liturgy and the church interior in relation to the use of money, form the central questions of the chapter. After the Lutheran Reformation in 1527, individual communion through the mediation of the saints was gradually superseded by the celebration of the Eucharist. However, it is evident that coin offerings around the altar dedicated to the Virgin Mary continued in Jomala after the Reformation. A second issue that is addressed in the study is the continuation of offerings into the Early Modern period. The post-Reformation offering practices described in Finnish written sources reflect the Catholic faith in the miracle of transsubstantio, when the entire substance of the bread and wine are changed into the substance of the body and blood of Christ. This was seen as the most sacred moment during the divine service, and also the most suitable moment to give coin offerings. A post-Reformation coin offering put on the altar cloth during the Eucharist can be described as a kind of a ceremonial payment. This habit lasted at least until the period of the Great Wrath in Finland. It has been emphasised that 'altar cloth offerings' clearly continued after the period of the Great Wrath (1713-1721) in Jomala.

В данной статье нами комплексно рассмотрены фальшивые монеты, обращав-
шиеся на денежном рынке южных земель Великого княжества Литовского (да-
лее – ВКЛ) в период правления великого князя Витовта Кейстутовича (1392–1430).
Типы исследуемых фальшивых монет определены в качестве подделок наиболее
часто встречающихся монетных прототипов на денежном рынке южнолитовских
земель в конце XIV – середине XV в.


Forged Coins in the Monetary Circulation of the Southern Lands of the Grand

in the southern lands of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL) in the period of Vytautas’s
rule.

Convegni tenutisi a Torino e a Mantova durante le manifestazioni per ricordare il passaggio del Monferrato dai Gonzaga ai Savoia. I saggi qui pubblicati intendono ripercorrere alcuni dei momenti che caratterizzarono quel periodo storico: dall'analisi del complesso quadro politico europeo ad un'analisi tesa a meglio sviscerare la complessa e controversa figura di Ferdinando Carlo Gonzaga-Nevers, dall'interessante e corposa iconografia del duca e delle sue consorti, fino a giungere alla sua autopsia attraverso la lettura di un documento di notevole valore storico e scientifico, il tutto completato da un contributo sulla monetazione dell'ultimo periodo dell'esistenza autonoma del Ducato di Mantova e di Monferrato. La lettura dei testi aiuterà a meglio comprendere il significato di quel 1708, anno che rappresentò il momento culminante del lungo processo sabaudo teso all'assimilazione del Piemonte orientale, fondamentale punto di partenza per il successivo processo di unificazione italiana che sarà ricordato il prossimo anno in occasione del suo 150° anniversario.

A discussion of Norfolk's 17th century token series and recent research on attribution and distribution by the Norfolk Token Project.  Published in Norfolk Archaeology 2015. Note: Sadly the maps have been reproduced at a very small scale and the font has been inexplicably made smaller partway into the article. Both these issues were pointed out to the editors at proof stage but no action was taken.

After the outbreak of the Great financial crisis in 1585 the importation of European coins became uncontrollable. The official authorities was forced not only to accept the facts but also tried to setup control by defining official exchange rates for the foreign coins in its territory. These rates were often much lower than the market ones. This way the Ottoman government tried to derive financial gains by setting state-controlled rates.
With the outbreak of the crisis in the Ottoman Empire, the population began intensively to conceal a large amount of coins. The hoards buried until the 1580s are few. But the amount of the hoarded coins afterwards increased many times. To this times refer a huge amounts of coins which were circulated on nowadays Bulgarian territory between 1585 and 1648. Hristo Kharitonov has collected information about a total of 460 single finds and coin hoards, found in Bulgaria. Most of them are a stray finds.
According to their origin coins from this period belong to several groups:
1. Domestic (i.e. Ottoman coins);
2. Foreign (mostly European, and very rarely coins of other Islamic states).
Coin finds from this era as well are divided into two major groups:
1. Single finds (stray coins);
2. Collective finds (coin hoards).
According to the material of which coins were struck, they are divided into several groups:
1. Hoards containing only gold coins;
2. Hoards containing only silver coins;
3. Hoards containing only copper coins;
4. Hoards containing both gold and silver coins;
5. Hoards containing both silver and copper coins.

The article puts a light on the imitations and the private counterfeits of the coins of Ottoman Empire in the North Black Sea coast. The classification of the counterfeits is given, also the prototypes of the counterfeit and the tendencies of the forgery produce are investigated. The transition from the falsification of the small coins to the bigger denominations is analyzed according to the economical and political conditions and also according to providing the automatic minting machinery. Basing on the modern research methods, such as XRF-analysis, the methods of the production of the counterfeits are defined.

В статье рассмотрены кустарные подделки и имитации монет, прототипами для изготовления которых послужили монеты Османской империи в Северном Причерноморье. Подана классификация фальшивых монет, определены основные прототипы подделок, а также тенденции, наблюдаемые в переходе от подделки мелких монет к крупным. Переход от подделки мелких монет к крупным проанализирован, исходя из изменения экономико-политической ситуации, а также в связи с переходом на машинную чеканку монет. На основе современных точных методов исследования (РФА анализ) установлены используемые при подделке технологии производства фальсификатов.

У статті розглянуті кустарні підробки та імітації монет, прототипами для виготовлення яких слугували монети Османської імперії в Північному Причорномор’ї. Наведена класифікація фальшивих монет, визначені основні прототипи підробки, а також тенденції, що спостерігаються у переході від підробки дрібних монет до крупних. Перехід від підробки дрібних монет до крупних проаналізований, виходячи із економіко-політичних обставин, а також враховуючи перехід до машинного карбування. На основі сучасних методів дослідження (РФА аналіз) визначені технології виробництва фальшивих монет минулого, що використовувалися фальсифікаторами.
