Considering a nonperishable product which may be stored either in an own warehouse or in both the own and the rented warehouse, this paper deals with the ordering decisions under a generalized trapezoidal-type demand rate in an inventory system. Shortages are allowed and the unsatisfied demand is assumed to be partially backlogged. Furthermore, the existence and uniqueness of the optimal solution to each warehouse mode is proved and used in an easy-to-use algorithm, and a decision-making theorem for measuring whether to adopt a rented warehouse is developed. Finally, numerical examples and a case study are presented to illustrate the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed model and algorithm. The results show that, the storage capacity of the own warehouse and the unit rental cost have remarkable impact on determining whether to use the rented warehouse. When both the unit rental cost and the unit opportunity cost are higher in the external market, the profitability of the inventory system mainly relies on the storage capacity of the own warehouse. Meanwhile, the optimal profit performance is sensitive to the selling price and the purchasing cost, and the optimal rented warehouse's ordering quantity is sensitive to the order cycle length. But overall, the proposed model is basically robust.

As with many sectors, strategists and decision makers in the agricultural sector have a requirement to predict key measures such as product and feed pricing in order to maintain their position and, in some cases, to survive in their industry. Predictive algorithms in the area of Agri Analytics have shown to be very difficult due to the wide range of parameters and often unpredictable nature of some of these variables. Improving the predictive capability of Agri planners requires access to up-to-date external information in addition to the analyses provided by their own in-house databases. This motivates the need for an Agri Data Warehouse together with appropriate cleaning and transformation processes. However, with the availability of rich and wide ranging sources of Agri data now available online, there is a strong motivation to process as much current, online information as possible. In this work, we introduce the Agri Data Warehouse built for the DATAS project which not only harvests from a large number of online sources but also adopts an anomaly detection and labelling process to assist transformation and loading into the warehouse.

The Agri sector has shown an exponential growth in both the requirement for and the production and availability of data. In parallel with this growth, Agri organisations often have a need to integrate their in-house data with international, web-based datasets. Generally, data is freely available from official government sources but there is very little unity between sources, often leading to significant manual overhead in the development of data integration systems and the preparation of reports. While this has led to an increased use of data warehousing technology in the Agri sector, the issues of cost in terms of both time to access data and the financial costs of generating the Extract-Transform-Load layers remain high. In this work, we examine more lightweight data marts in an infrastructure which can support on-demand queries. We focus on the construction of data marts which combine both enterprise and web data, and present an evaluation which verifies the transformation process from source to data mart.

Generating realistic configurations of urban models is a vital part of the modeling process, especially if these models are used for evaluation and analysis. In this work, we address the problem of assigning objects to their storage locations inside a warehouse which has a great impact on the quality of operations within a warehouse. Existing storage policies aim to improve the efficiency by minimizing travel time or by classifying the items based on some features. We go beyond existing methods as we analyze warehouse layout network in an attempt to understand the factors that affect traffic within the warehouse. We use simulated annealing based sampling to assign items to their storage locations while reducing traffic congestion and enhancing the speed of order picking processes. The proposed method enables a range of applications including efficient storage assignment, warehouse reliability evaluation and traffic congestion estimation.

The implementation of automata theory in the design of string searching algorithms presents a promising approach to enhance data search efficiency in the context of ever-expanding information. As the volume of stored data increases and rapid access becomes essential, the challenges of string searching grow significantly. The concept of automata provides a formal structure that can expedite the searching process through a graphical representation of existing patterns within strings. The analysis conducted in this study demonstrates that automata-based algorithms not only improve search speed but also reduce complexity in terms of memory usage and accuracy. Results from the analysis of various algorithms indicate that this approach is viable for implementation in applications within computing and data processing that require high effectiveness.

In the last decades, fire safety engineering (FSE) has been extensively used to improve the design of many industrial systems. In this study, the FSE approach is applied to determine the optimal vertical distance between pallets allocated in a warehouse containing plastic materials in order to control and reduce typical fire parameter such as the heat release rate (HRR). Moreover, the study reported in this paper is used to confirm that the design rules indicated by current EN norms for automated fire extinguishing systems are well effective to limit the fire risk and ensure proper safety conditions.

The literature offers several papers debating this issue with a recent focus on the possibility to offset the items inventory cycles in order to reduce the maximum required space. A genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed in order to determine the optimal offsetting inventory cycles of items stored in the same warehouse. The heuristics was validated through the comparison with the most adopted and cited methodology, showing the effectiveness of the GA, able to provide better results than those previously presented in the literature. In recent years, the importance of the RFId technology within the operations management environment has become more evident. In particular, the RFId technology is recognised as an accelerator of the change towards a more efficient way to manage operations in an industrial context. The aim of this paper is to present a case study for the application of a pre-existing model (based on the Business Process Modelling method) for the technical, economic and financial evaluation of an RFId technology application in the area of industrial logistics for a bike manufacturer. The paper will face this issue preliminarily analysing the RFId utilization in the industrial context, afterwards analysing the existing literature on the BPM use for the evaluation of the applicability of RFId to the industrial context and lastly illustrating the case study and the results of the application of the BPM to the specific firm. The results demonstrate the improvement that it is possible to achieve in terms of financial returns and in terms of bikes worked in the warehouse per year.

With this motivation, this paper is aimed at developing a two-warehouse inventory model for deteriorating items where the demand rate is a decreasing function of the selling price under inflationary conditions. In addition, shortages are allowed and partially backlogged, and the backlogging rate has been considered as an exponentially decreasing function of the waiting time. The model jointly optimizes the initial inventory and the price for the product, so as to maximize the total average profit. Finally, the model is analysed and validated with the help of numerical examples, and a comprehensive sensitivity analysis has been performed which provides some important managerial implications.

In this article, we introduce the capacitated warehouse location model with risk pooling (CLMRP), which captures the interdependence between capacity issues and the inventory management at the warehouses. The CLMRP models a logistics system in which a single plant ships one type of product to a set of retailers, each with an uncertain demand. Warehouses serve as the direct intermediary between the plant and the retailers for the shipment of the product and also retain safety stock to provide appropriate service levels to the retailers. The CLMRP minimizes the sum of the fixed facility location, transportation, and inventory carrying costs. The model simultaneously determines warehouse locations, shipment sizes from the plant to the warehouses, the working inventory, and safety stock levels at the warehouses and the assignment of retailers to the warehouses. The costs at each warehouse exhibit initially economies of scale and then an exponential increase due to the capacity limitations. We show that this problem can be formulated as a nonlinear integer program in which the objective function is neither concave nor convex. A Lagrangian relaxation solution algorithm is proposed. The Lagrangian subproblem is also a nonlinear integer program. An efficient algorithm is developed for the linear relaxation of this subproblem. The Lagrangian relaxation algorithm provides near-optimal solutions with reasonable computational requirements for large problem instances.

The results show that the storage system consists of a variety of storage operations which have their respective functions and the position within the system. Utilization of storage capacity for storage of goods depends on the elements that are related to the manner of storage of goods. By analyzing the optimization of inventory for the wholesale business data has shown that the highest quality methods is P method with smaller period because it has the most accurate inventory optimization. This paper examines the wide variety of warehouses belonging to the textile industry in Ghent, an important historical harbour city in Belgium, once called the “Manchester of the mainland”. Different types of warehouses were built depending on the characteristics of the materials stored, the location of the warehouse and whether the goods stored would be used in manufacturing or were finished products. The specific architecture, construction and organisation of these warehouses are analysed, with special attention to the reasons for the prevalence of one construction material or another.

Purpose Due to the importance of efficiency and responsiveness measures rather than just efficiency measures, this research recognizes both measures when considering overall performance of warehouse operations. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to prioritize overall performance measures associated with warehouse operations in manufacturing, third-party logistics service provider and retail industry supply chains. Design/methodology/approach The study uses an integrated approach that involves the Q-sort method to group measures into four categories. Fuzzy analytical hierarchy process was then used to prioritize individual performance measures within each category and integer liner programming model was used to validate prioritized categories, using the judgment of multiple decision makers across three industries. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises contribute significantly to the Gross Domestic Product of the country and also happen to be the largest generator of employment in Indonesia. Nevertheless, most of them find it difficult to adopt digitalization because of their limitations in infrastructure and relevant information systems and also due to poor digital literacy. These challenges, therefore, extend to fundamental business operations such as financial management, inventory monitoring, and sales, which are usually done manually. In line with this, the development of an efficient and user-friendly Point of Sale application, available on both Android and web platforms, is a strategy in the right direction. The application is designed to bring efficiency in financial management, recording of inventories, and sales operations for MSMEs, since it offers them the instruments needed for migrating to digital workflows. In addressing these constraints, the POS application hopes to empower MSMEs so that they can participate in the thriving digital economy and contribute more firmly to Indonesia's development. The focus of the study is on designing and developing a POS system that will respond to the needs of MSMEs in the digital era.

The study was aimed at optimizing the post package reheating (pasteurization) hurdle for processing shelf stable pork sausages. The temperatures evaluated were 80, 90 and 100C. Reheating resulted in an increase in pH, which was slight at 80C while significant (P < 0.05) at 90 and 100C. Moisture and fat contents decreased significantly while protein content increased significantly with increase in reheating temperature. Reheating of the sausages up to 90C significantly improved their hardness and shear force values. Reheating to 90 and 100C increased the redness (a‐values) and decreased yellowness (b‐values) of the sausages. Despite a lower initial value, the pH of the control sausages increased by 0.3 units on day 3 of storage, while that of reheated samples showed only a slight increase (0.04–0.05 units). Recent research and publications indicate that the sweet potato cultivation is very widespread in the world, especially on the continents of Asia and Africa, and plays a crucial role in the diet of the local
population, due to its important dietary and nutritional properties that rival regular potatoes. Numerous studies, including those carried out at the molecular level, testify to the prospects of growing this crop, thanks to its high tolerance to abiotic stresses, in particular, drought. The purpose
of our article was to analyze the trends in sweet potato production in the world. We utilized methods of analyzing primary sources and statistical data from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, as well as synthesizing international scientific sources. The analysis of statistical data showed that at the global level, the top ten producers of sweet potatoes include countries located on the Asian and African continents, as well as the United States of America, which is the largest producer on the
American continent. In Europe, the production of sweet potatoes was not practiced, but in recent years there has been an increased interest in this culture both among scientists and in the production spheres. Different trends in sweet potato production development on different continents have been established. While there has been a trend of decreasing production in Asian countries over the past thirty years, African countries have shown a consistent increase in production. These differences
between the two continents are likely related to internal factors within each country, which require further research.

The experiment was conducted using brinjal hybrid seeds cv. Arka Navneet. Seeds were pelleted with Bavistin, ZnSO4, MnSO4, DAP and Arappu leaf powder and stored in paper and polyethylene bags under ambient conditions for 12 months. Among the seed pelleting treatments, seeds pelleted with Bavistin (0.1%) followed by Albezia amara leaf powder (250 g/kg) resulted in minimum quantitative losses with better seed quality parameters. The seeds stored in polyethylene (700 gauges) bags maintained better seed quality parameters with less quantitative losses in comparison with seeds stored in paper bags throughout the storage period. In the interaction, effect of seeds pelleted with Bavistin and stored in polyethylene bag followed by Albezia amara leaf powder and stored in polyethylene bag revealed higher values for all the positive quality parameters when compared to other interaction effects throughout the storage period.

Malaysian dry ports should possess sufficient operational infrastructure, professional personnel and capital infrastructure which can be harmonised with container seaports and other components within the container seaport system. In the quantitative phase, the online survey aimed at examining factors influencing dry port operations and how these impact the competitiveness of container seaports. At this stage, hauliers, freight forwarders, shippers, shipping lines, seaport operators and the rail operator have been selected to participate in the survey. The EFA results show seven factors influencing dry port operations: information sharing, service features, capacity, government policy, hinterland conditions, location and administration. The results show that dry port operations have clear impacts on seaport competitiveness. These include enhancing seaport performance, increasing service variations for seaports, improving seaport-hinterland proximity, increasing seaport trade volume and enhancing seaport capacity. The outcomes also reveal that these seven factors affect seaport competitiveness by enhancing seaport performance, increasing service variations for seaports and improving seaport-hinterland proximity. Malaysian dry ports have some opportunities for future developmentfor the purpose of serving container seaport systems. These include the accessibility to international transportation networks and the availability of international and national economic development plans. The strategies for utilising the above opportunities are provided in this thesis, such as developing transport infrastructure, enforcing information sharing between key players, generating teamwork between seaports and dry ports, developing a network among the dry ports, location pooling, developing dry port marketing plans, introduction of safety and security systems in dry port operations, ensuring a balanced development in freight transport and others.

Robustness of database systems under stress is hard to quantify, because there are many factors involved, most notably the user expectation to perform a job within certain bounds of the user requirements. Nevertheless, robustness of database system is very important to end users. In this paper we develop a database benchmark suite, inspired by tractor pulling, where robustness is measured as a system's ability to process data despite a continuous increase in system load, as defined in terms of data volume, query volume and complexity. A functional evaluation is performed against several systems to highlight the benchmark capabilities.

Data Warehouses (DWs) are essential for enterprises, containing valuable business information and thus becoming prime targets for internal and external attacks. Data warehouses are crucial assets for organizations, serving critical purposes in business and decision-making. They consolidate data from diverse sources, making it easier for organizations to analyze and derive insights from their data. However, as data is moved from one source to another, security issues arise. Unfortunately, current data security solutions often fail in DW environments due to resource-intensive processes, increased query response times, and frequent false positive alarms. The structure of the data warehouse is designed to facilitate efficient analysis. Developing and deploying a data warehouse is a difficult process and its security is an even greater concern. This study provides a comprehensive review of existing data security methods, emphasizing their implementation challenges in DW environments. Our analysis highlights the limitations of these solutions, particularly in meeting scalability and performance needs. We conclude that current methods are impractical for DW systems and support for a comprehensive solution tailored to their specific requirements. Our findings underscore the ongoing significance of data warehouse security in industrial projects, necessitating further research to address remaining challenges and unanswered questions.

Warehouses are used to store raw materials, finished goods, defective products, tools, machinery, and other company assets until needed. In addition, the warehouse is a staging area for the storage and packaging of products delivered to the customer for consumer industries. Ideally, storage time, storage space, and delivery lead times are minimized by improving warehouse management. This study implements an integration of linear programming (LP) and decision-making models. The LP model provides decision-makers with the optimum quantity of products that can be stored in the warehouse based on different case scenarios considered in this study. Furthermore, the criteria affecting the space utilization of warehouses at total capacity are identified. The finished goods must be stored in a warehouse before the items are dispatched. Due to the increasing demand in 2020, there will be an increase in the quantity of items, which will cause the finished goods warehouse at PT X to reach capacity. This issue lengthens the flow through the warehouse and makes it easier for the items to sustain damage. To improve capacity, the firm is building a new finished goods warehouse, and it wants to organize the two warehouses so that the displacement time is as short as possible. This study utilized simulations to calculate the time and dedicated and class-based storage strategies to establish the layout. Propagation of UWB Gaussian signal in a model of automated collaborative warehouse is analyzed using ray tracing method. The transmitting antenna is placed on the human body while the received power profiles in warehouse containing empty racks and racks filled with different loads are calculated.
