Eddie made the move to El Paso, Buck isn't coping so well so he takes to doing research and texting Eddie random facts and thoughts instead of saying all the things on his mind.
Or, 5 times Buck texts Eddie with weird trivia/thoughts and 1 time he send him something genuine (by accident).
Buck didn't say what he wanted to say. Not even close. I'm talking about the weather just to have something to talk to you about.

"Okay don't get mad," Eddie hears through the phone and for some reason it makes him smile.
"What am I getting mad about? Did you beat my pinball high score?" he teased, hearing Buck's light chuckle as he took a moment to hesitate.
"I slept with Tommy last night."
Eddie doesn't expect it to hit him in the chest as hard as it does. He's not even sure why.
"You... wait, you called him?" was all he could say as the idea of it sank in deeper.
"Uh, actually no," he said. "I was actually out drinking with Ravi and we just... ran into each other."
"Right," Eddie said, because what else could he say?
Buck continued with his story anyway. It was friendly between them, and they got to talking, he was a little tipsy and people don't lie about the whole liquid courage thing.. One thing led to another and—
"I don't know, I don't think either of us meant for it to happen but... then I asked him if he wanted to see my new place, I said I missed him, he said he missed me too and it was just... familiar I guess."
Familiar, okay well, that's not a way you would describe mind-blowing sex. Still, it did nothing to remove the swirling sensation from Eddie's gut.
"I mean I think we both just got a little emotional talking to one another and, well... I'm only human, and he looks good."
Of course he did, Eddie thought, teeth clamping down on his bottom lip. He's a good looking guy, why wouldn't he look good?
"Like I know I should probably go out and meet other people, but there's just something different about it when you know the person, you know what I mean?"
All too well, Eddie thought.

"I didn't even think you'd seen Tommy until—"
His words got stuck in his throat, they still didn't seem real. Until the funeral.
Buck swallowed, taking a few steps towards the wall and leaning against it.
"Did I forget to mention that... we slept together?" he closed one eye and looked back at Eddie like he was waiting for the lecture.
While usually Eddie would have had one ready to go, he paused for a moment as he pondered whether it was the right time.
"You did forget to mention it," he said instead.
"It just didn't seem important, not with everything you were dealing with at the same time," he said.
"You know friendship works two ways, right?" he asked with a gentle smile and a tilt of his head. "Just because I'm going through a rough patch doesn't mean I don't want to hear about your life and what's going on with you. I mean, if it did, we might never talk about you."
Buck let out an echo of a laugh, and even that after the week they'd had sounded warm in his ears.
"Yeah I know," he said.
"That's... not the only reason you didn't tell me though, is it?"
He looked back and chewed on his bottom lip a moment, contemplating his reply.
"He... may have implied that he had a better chance of making it work with me... now that you're not here," he said slowly, and Eddie just blinked back at him as he let the words register.
"He implied that?"

After that, everything blurs like a watercolor painting left out in the rain. One moment, he's standing outside Chris's door, then he blinks, and suddenly he's perched on a plastic chair in the shower, warm water cascading down his back as Carla gently massages shampoo into his scalp, her fingers working through his hair with practiced care. Another blink, and he's lying in bed. Their bed - his and Eddie’s - the familiar scent of their sheets enveloping him. Just this morning they had been tangled together, their bodies fitting effortlessly like pieces of a puzzle, lips branding their love and devotion onto their skin with every kiss. Now, the bed feels too big, an endless expanse of emptiness stretching around him, his heart echoing the loneliness that fills the space where Eddie should be. Shannon is tucking him in, smoothing the sheets down with a practiced care he knows she uses with Chris. Before he can stop himself, he reaches out and clasps her hand, his fingers trembling slightly as they wrap around hers. “Stay?” The question is a soft plea, one Buck can’t stop himself from making even though he feels like he’s asking too much. He just - he can’t sleep in their bed alone and he sure as shit isn’t letting Shannon sleep out on the couch. Thinks she might need the comfort just as much as he does. He’s been through hell today, but so has she. Maybe not as many levels as him, but still. They both love Eddie and almost lost him. “Please? I don’t - I don’t want to be alone.”
