    Beatles '64

Not a review but just two stray thoughts:
    - Was Lennon playing what would become “Strawberry Fields Forever” on melodica?!
    - Did that guy who visited Liverpool pay off Scorsese? Why the fuck did that story take up so much of the film?

    The Beach Boys

    ★★★

“To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys’ greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.” –Jack Rieley, The Beach Boys’ manager in the early ’70s

I knew nothing about Everything Everywhere All at Once prior to seeing it other than the fact that several friends and people I follow on Instagram had given it some of the highest praise I’ve ever heard for a movie. Sold.

    That Thing You Do!

    ★★★★★

It’s fitting that my favorite movie of all time is the last one I watched prior to joining Letterboxd (I always jump at the opportunity show it to someone who’s never seen it). My pitch is usually this: it’s got everything you could want—heart, humor, great music and period piece aesthetics, and forever-memorable lines and scenes—in spades. It’s a movie about a band inspired by The Beatles, and much like The Beatles are a perfect band, That Thing You Do! is a perfect movie.
