Mickey 17 2025
Wildly imaginative, playful, and deeply funny. Mickey 17 is unapologetically on the nose and at times a little bloated, but it’s so preposterously fun and unpredictable that it completely stole my heart. Jam packed with big performances from a stacked cast that all deserve applause.

Nickel Boys 2024
There are poignant moments in Nickel Boys built largely on its visual conceit that give you the textural feeling of a lived-in life unlike what most other films can portray through conventional means. Detrimentally, this same visual language did create an emotionally distancing effect that I found at times mildly confounding and at others deeply frustrating. This story gets thunderous applause for its humanity, originality, and sophistication, but it lacks the resonant character connection that is possibly best achieved through more traditional visual motifs.

I Saw the TV Glow 2024
And I saw the back of my eyelids after about 20 minutes.
What starts out as an aesthetic feast with astronomical potential frustratingly becomes a painfully paced, surface level, melodramatic mess. The only thing giving this a second star is an allegorical element of this movie that resonates with me deeply, but really that only serves to underscore just how big of a missed opportunity this is.
Honestly if the movie had just been the 90 second Caroline Polachek needle drop midway through, they really would’ve had something.
