Hesitant alien theory time

(this is going to be a long one sorry DX also anytime I use brackets that's me breaking character from my slightly more composed self because I can't keep myself together once I have reached this level of geek)

Hesitant Alien has been out there for a while yet I’ve NEVER seen this mentioned.

SO, most songs written by Gerard Way or which Gerard had collaborated with are usually completely conceptual and are based on a work of fiction he has produced or, is a work of fiction based upon events that have happened in his own life e.g how foundations of decay has various links to how 9/11 has affected him. The main thing that has come to my attention is that Hesitant Alien breaks this rule, or less breaks the rule and blurs the line.

There are songs that obviously link to direct experience that Gerard has had such as “brother” being about his brother Mikey and his struggles with overdose but this isn’t actually what I’m referring to. Funnily enough the basis of this theory I created stemmed from this album containing 2 things that have defined Gerard’s music and morals from the beginning... Women and pronouns.

Now before you all think I’ve finally lost the plot Hear me out on this one.

First, I’ll start with the women. Now most hesitant alien fans already know the existence of Maya the psychic, she’s got her own song, the fans love her, we get it, but I’d like to comment on some of the ladies mentioned in “get the gang together”. Near the start of the song we hear the lyrics “I heard Jennifer died in Rome” and not far after that we have “Whatever happened to Rico? You heard what happened to Sly? Anyway, they all call him Michelle now and he had a new baby, A little girl Gemini”

From a brief bit of research I have decided there are 3 possibilities on the meaning of the first quote. 1. He’s referring to Nirvana’s drummer and lead singer of foo fighters David Grohl’s ex-wife Jennifer being present with Kurt Cobain less than two months before his death (bit niche but knowing what I know about Gerard, it wouldn’t surprise me) 2. He happens to have relations to one of the many other Jennifer’s that have died in Rome 3. Jennifer is not a real person meaning we all have a new character on our hands who we can make lore about, YAY!

Moving on to the second lyric and a favourite of mine.I haven't researched this bit as there is a very little chance that this relates to anyone real but there are some things we know for sure.There is a new character born with the name Rico, who presumably transitioned and now goes by Michelle and has recently has recently had a baby, I’m not sure whether their baby's name is Gemini or his referring to their star sign, but that would fit with the themes of space and astronomy in the album so that would be my guess. ( “Oh and why is that important?” well it's important because WE’VE ALL BEEN SLEEPING ON A NEVER BEFORE MENTIONED TRANSFEM OC OF GERARD'S THAT'S ALL - if you can't tell I'm being sarcastic, the idea of this is very exciting to me because I eat up new hesitant alien + MCR content like dog that's been starved for 30 days)

furthermore, we have the line ” Anyway, so tell Mara I miss that thing we had, And tell Tara I’m sorry I never tried-“ that follows just a bit after. I think it is important to consider the fact that Gerard has had multiple partners before settling down and getting married, so this could be a fictionalised version of an ex girlfriend and a sister,friend,mother etc, or more importantly hesitant aliens ex girlfriend ?!?(Am I trying to get you to right hurt/injured comfort fics about hesitant aliens gf breaking up with him? NOOO why would I ever do that…/s)

As I mentioned earlier, the pronouns used in this album make this theory of new characters that were part of a concept then never developed further, or that there are new characters full stop. This is because throughout the entire album many of the songs use she/her/they pronouns meaning that many of the songs on this album, like Maya the psychic, may be about other female characters, the only difference being they are not explicitly named in the song title. The main example of suggestive pronoun usage is the song “drugstore perfume” as it uses she/her pronouns the entire way through. I would also love to do a bit of research on how they/them pronouns may be referring to Lola but I haven't done a full analysis on this one yet so I'd ont know if there's enough material for me to build a theory on that.

this may be controversial but i feel like foundations of decay was a great ending to mcr’s musical career if they don’t come out with anything else such as mcr5 (yap fest below)

trust me i love the idea of mcr5 as well but foundations just seems like a good ending, i see it as if mcr was going back in time thru their eras from when they first formed to the present, talking about their legacy and what comes next for their career as they “turn the page” to better things and to focus on other things as well like other projects… its to reflect on their success and what they accomplished together as a band

some of the lyrics make me think this as well because “with all the damage they have done” can refer to the struggles all of them had from drugs to alcoholism to depression to eating disorders etc and how this “left its scars” because they didnt know what an impact the band had made on them which is the sole reason why they broke up specifically because gerard wanted bandit to have a father

i also always thought of the song to be a reflection song as well due to the talk of 9/11 which we all know to be when gerard knew he wanted to do something with his life to make the band, seeing the towers fall in front of his eyes and then walked home. the band are the “towers of their own” that they created, but they felt themselves corrode when they didnt know what else to do with themselves

i could yap all day abt the meanings in this song from how it mentions “swarm” (one of their tours), how canonization is irony, showing how sexist the industry can be (he dies a saint but she will always be the whore), etc

the song to me means theyre letting their old selves decay so that they can be replenished into new people, kind of like how decay in the environment helps recycle nutrients for new life to grow and the “get up coward!” is them trying to snap out of their problems to become better which is why i see this as like a perfect song to “end” their career with

so tl;dr: i love mcr5 as well but maybe we should also reflect on how amazing mcr is and how foundations of decay, while being my fav song, is also a great ending to mcr’s musical career if they don’t come out with anything new
