Re-reading the chapter “The Steward and the King” in RoTK for the first time in a while, and I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated how FERAL Faramir is the absolute fucking second he meets Eowyn.

In their first conversation, he tells her he hopes she’ll come meet him in the garden and walk with him sometimes. And she’s like, “…Why?”

And he goes, “Want an honest answer?”

“Yeah,” she says.

And WITHOUT PAUSE, he goes, “Because you’re the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.”

She goes back to her room in the Houses of Healing with a real “well, that was a lot” vibe.

Faramir spends the rest of the day tracking down everyone who knows anything about her and shamelessly asking about her.

Love to see it.

Listen to me. You don't understand. I hear so many people hating on Frodo and Boromir. The reason is always the same: they went bonkers over the Ring. "That's why Sam is better - Frodo was weak and all he did was whine about the Ring. He sucks." "That's why Faramir is better - Boromir went crazy because of the Ring. He's a jerk."

But what you don't realise is that while they were susceptible to the Ring, the most important thing isn't that a character isn't corrupted by the Ring - it's if they get over it or not. You saw how Frodo kept going. He didn't give up, even when all he had was Sam and trust is weird and the burden was heavy. How he kept going even after he dropped the Ring in the fire. You saw how Boromir died saving Merry and Pippin, one of the last thoughts in his mind being that he failed and he took it too far with Frodo and the Ring.

The Lord of the Rings isn't about evil not existing - it's about fighting despite it existing. About not giving up. About finding hope.
